KF 101(Korean Food Intro)-2 “Mandu(Dumpling)”

Hello~~

So today we will seee the Korean dumpling! We call it Mandu (만두).

Depends on what ingredients you put in, it becomes diverse Mandu. For example, if you put the shrimp and veggies, then it becomes a shrimp mandu, if you put the kimchi, then it becomes kimchi Mandu. Not only it varies with the filling, but also it does with the way of cooking. If it is in the stew, then it becomes Mandu stew, also, if it is a big pot style, then it becomes Mandu jeongol. If it is grilled, then Gun mandu. If it is steamed then it is Jjin mandu.

So let me show you the stew type first.

만두국

Usually, inside people fill in with ground pork, green onion (or onion), bit of garlic, and tofu. It can vary of course, but I had this filling the most. Usually I put the each dumpling in the other plate to cool it down and put bit of soy sauce, and eat it. yummy. The soup is usually from Oxbone or beef.

Next is big pot style (big pot).

Ah… it looks so great. . . So this is usually shared by at least 2 people. They usually put lots of mushroom, tofu and many vegetables such as green onion, Minari(I don’t know in English nor I have seen in other countries), Ssukgat (I haven’t seen this veggie either in different country). Ah also noodle is added. It is very chewy noodle, I like it :-).

Next is Gun Mandu(grilled or fried).

You can just grill this on the pan, but it is also really nice to fry the dumpling. But still people call it grilled Mandu. Anyway it is so crispy and amazing.

Final one is Jjin Mandu (steamed).

This is also very nice! You can also eat this with pepper pickle or onion pickle. It is amazing.

Among them, I usually love the stew(soup) type, or big pot type. Since Mandu itself has meat and veggies inside, it is great to make the soup amazing! The more boiled, the better it tastes. I also like Chinese dumpling, the texture and tastes are quite different I think.
