Lake Qarun, where Qarun was drowned with his wealth in Fayoum City, Cairo, Egypt.
According to some reports, the location of the drowned place of Qarun along with his house into the earth took place in the Al-Fayyum area, about 90 kilometers (km) or two hours by car from Cairo, the capital of Egypt. According to locals, the name of the lake is Bahirah Qarun (Qarun sea). In the vicinity of Al-Fayyum the only remnant is the ruins of Qarun's palace.
At this location, there is a very wide lake. The length of the lake reaches 30 km with the width of the lake about 10 km and the depth reaches 30-40 meters.
According to DR Rusydi al-Badrawy, in his book Qashash al-Anbiya 'wa al-Tarikh (Acts of Prophets and History), Bahirah Qarun was once conducted research by geologists from Western Europe. The study focused on proving whether there had been an earthquake disaster to drown Qarun and his house, as revealed in the Qur'an.
The result? After a comprehensive review, Rusydi al-Badrawy writes, the researchers from Europe concluded that in ancient times, it was true that there had been a catastrophic earthquake, especially in the southern part of the Qarun lake.
'' This proves that the story of Qarun ever happened around the lake, '' wrote Rusydi. And, according to the Egyptians, in Al-Fayyum this was once Qarun lived.
Now, Qarun lake looks calm. Although behind it keep a lesson that is very meaningful to mankind. That is, pride can destroy him, as happened to Qarun.
Rusydi explained, this lake has existed since the first before Qarun exist. The lake was once a small lake called Munkhafazh al-Laahun.
Of course there is still a need for more in-depth research at this location about the sinking of Qarun. For, if it is true where Qarun is drowned with his wealth, surely there will be found a wealth of Qarun's wealth.
