Kering sunglasses - Made where????

After my previous post regarding "Made in..." misunderstanding, a new big brand comes in front of the spotlight with a stamp problem on 18 pair of luxury sunglasses. (-> http://www.vogue.co.uk/article/kering-defends-made-in-italy-selima-optique-lawsuit)

The issue was caused by stamping "made in Italy" sunglasses (Kering) with stamps from "made in China" sunglasses (Puma).
Optique-boutique has accused the brand of falsely labeling sunglasses which mislead the customers.

The company's explanation is a very plausible one and I do understand that these type of mistakes can happen. The only question I have, again, is why is so important the location of creation, as long as the quality is great?
