WHICH JUVEDERM TREATMENT IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Growing older gracefully isn’t for everyone. If you are tired of looking at lines, wrinkles, and thinning lips on your own reflection, it may be time to consider dermal filler treatments. At Southlake we perform all Juvederm injections personally to ensure you get the best care during your cosmetic treatment.

Understanding Aging Skin

Your skin contains collagen for elasticity, volume, and softness. As you age, your body produces less collagen. The result can be seen in the hollowing of your cheeks, thinning lips, and creases that eventually turn into fine lines and wrinkles.

Environmental factors like smoking, air pollution, and sun exposure can also cause wrinkles and may accelerate other aging patterns. Laugh lines, lipstick lines, and crow’s feet are wrinkles that may form due to repeated muscle movements.

How Can Dermal Fillers Help?

Dermal fillers are a type of cosmetic injectable placed directly under your skin through a very fine needle. Fillers are used to replace volume that is lost due to decreased collagen and subcutaneous fat.

The most popular brands, including Juvederm, use hyaluronic acid to achieve their results. This is a substance that naturally occurs within the human body. As a result, it is generally well accepted and creates a natural appearance.

Hyaluronic acid stimulates collagen production, which helps the body repair itself. Some formulations also rely on their gel-like consistency to restore lost volume. In these cases, the gel-like filler spreads throughout the treatment area once injected to fill hollows and plump lips. It is important that you talk to your provider about what type of injectable would work best for your concerns.

The Different Types of Juvederm

There are many different types and brands of dermal fillers and choosing the right one for your needs can feel overwhelming. No matter what your beauty goals are, there is bound to be a Juvederm treatment to help you reach them. Each one addresses aging concerns in a slightly different manner to target your specific issues.

All of them work to create smoother skin with fewer lines, wrinkles, and creases and restore lost volume to cheeks or lips.

Juvederm XC

This is the original formulation of the popular dermal filler. It was approved by the FDA for use in 2006, and it has since been used on thousands upon thousands of adults. If you have concerns about lines, wrinkles, creases, or folds in your appearance, then Juvederm XC may be the right choice for you.

The XC formula is injected directly into your chosen treatment area and works to smooth wrinkles and creases, from mild to severe. It is best suited for the areas around your cheeks and mouth and can successfully treat mild to severe imperfections.

Voluma®

If your concerns are your cheeks and lost volume, then Voluma may be a good choice. This strategic treatment works to gently plump cheeks and restore them to a younger-looking and more natural appearance.

Some people also use Voluma to reduce sagging, deep wrinkles, and nasolabial folds. Each treatment is formulated with lidocaine to increase your comfort during injection. While individual results will vary, results from an optimal Voluma treatment can last for up to two years.

Vollure™

Moderate to severe lines don’t stand a chance against Juvederm Vollure. This lidocaine-infused clear gel delivers targeted volume to deep lines and folds. It is especially helpful for fold-like parentheses lines that form around your lips and nose. Most people can expect results from a Vollure treatment to last for up to 18 months.

Volbella®

Volbella is specially formulated to plump lips that have thinned with age. It adds soft volume to your lips and can help minimize lipstick lines above them. Each treatment contains lidocaine for optimal comfort. You can expect results to last for up to 12 months, meaning you have plenty of time to enjoy that younger-looking smile.

What to Expect

At Southlake OBGYN, we will personally perform your treatment session in her office. It can take anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour to complete the injections, depending on the size and severity of your treatment area. That will be determined at a consultation prior to scheduling your appointment.

You will not have to worry about downtime or strict post-care requirements. In most cases, you can return to most normal activities the same day. You may be advised to avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for a day or so and to avoid exposure to the sun for a few days for best results.

A Safe and Effective Option

Juvederm has been widely used for more than 20 years. It is a minimally invasive treatment option for age-related skin imperfections. Like other dermal fillers, it is generally considered safe and has produced positive results for many people.

Treatments are suitable for most adults. However, if you have a sinus infection or are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should postpone scheduling a treatment. Talk to your doctor about suitable alternatives for the time being.
