While Assange is Treated Like a Criminal by U.K., PM Planning on Holding a Conference on 'Media Freedom'

The British Prime Minister Theresa May said she is planning an "international conference" to be hosted in London in 2019 on "media freedom." She mentioned how 2018 saw many journalists killed, while others are in prison or are being held hostage.

That's a decent goal. But, what about the media freedom of WikiLeaks and Jullian Assange?

This was mentioned in a parliamentary debate on January 30:

My right hon. Friend raises a very important issue. I certainly agree about the important role a free press and journalists play in our democracies, and I thank him for raising an issue that I know is important to him and many Members across the House. Sadly, as he says, 80 journalists we killed in 2018; 348 are currently in prison and 60 are being held hostage around the world. We are deeply concerned because, as he said, these numbers have risen on the previous year. That is why in 2019 we are placing our resources behind the cause of media freedom. We are helping to train journalists around the world, such as in Venezuela, where we have seen an authoritarian Government suppress their critics, and this year we plan to host an international conference in London on media freedom to bring together countries that believe in this cause and to mobilise an international consensus behind the protection of journalists. This is an important issue, and the Government are putting their weight behind it.

It seems she is talking out of her ass.

She explicitly mentions:

authoritarian Government suppress their critics

Well, May, that's what the U.S. is doing by going after Assange who founded WikiLeaks and has exposed a lot of their dirty laundry.

To say the goal is to work on the

protection of journalists

seems to be pretty flawed when you can't even do it in your own country to begin with. It's like slapping your partner around and then assembling a conference to stop spousal abuse, no?

Totally ignoring the case of Julian Assange who is being targeted for publishing documents that help to criticize governments like the U.S. If she cared at all about media freedom, she could make a case for Assange. She could give him amnesty herself. She could prevent him from being extradited to the U.S. But she's not doing any of that, now is she?

Doing that would actually mean Assange could be free to live a modicum of a life in Britain, rather than stay in isolated detention inside the Ecuadorian embassy.

What the hell. What a joke. A pathetic twisted dark joke that shows parts of the bizzaro inverted world we live in. Meanwhile, most people think everything is "A-OK" and the government is great, full of integrity and ready to uphold justice for all. It's all a big fucking joke.

Thank you for your time and attention. Peace.
