Jesus said: "You are the salt of the earth", Matthew 5:13. Exegesis, symbolism, importance and meaning of the bibleverse.

The salt together with the wind, the fire and the water have a symbolic meaning in the gospels. Jesus teach us about the salt: "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses it saltiness, how can it be made salty again?" Matthew 5:13. But what does the salt mean in this teaching?
The kingdom of God is fundamentally a doctrine of mystery: "The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables", Mark 4:11. Jesus asks us to open the intelligence: "He opened their mind so they could understand the scriptures", Luke 24:45.

In ancient times the salt was an exchange currency like god and was also used for religious purposes, there are references to the salt in the old testament, the old testament teach us about the covenant of the salt between Israel and God:
"Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings" Leviticus 2:13
"Whatever is set aside from the holy offerings the Israelites present to the Lord I give to you and your sons and daughters as your perpetual share. It is an everslasting covenant of salt before the Lord for both you and your offspring" Numbers 18:19
The salt in the gospels represents a new covenant, the covenant with the spirit. The salt represents the taste for wisdom. The Word of God, which is the same wisdom, has its own taste like the salt.
The Holy Spirit gives the "spiritual salt" (Gnosis) to the disciples in Pentecost, Acts 2: "For everyone will be salted with fire" Mark 9:49. The salt is the spiritual gift of wisdom transmitted by the purifyng fire.
Being a man salted with fire means to be full of the holy spirit, or in another terms, be wise as God is wise: "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" Matthew 5:48.
The "spiritual salt" is necessary to live in communion, the ethical and spiritual order of the society.
"You are the salt of the earth" in Matthew 5:13, means that the disciples are the divine wisdom that rehabilitates men and society.
