Apple News, 241 release: HomePod and iOS 11.3

We present to your attention the next issue of the news program Apple News . Today we will talk about HomePod, iOS 11.3 and much more.

  1. Four lawsuits related to Apple's charge of slowing down the iPhone were rejected by the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow. Due to a gross error in the documents, the court could not accept the applications and returned them to the plaintiffs. If it is not corrected before February 15, the lawsuits will be considered not filed.

  2. After several delays, Apple is still ready to ship its smart column. The pre-order for HomePod started on Friday, January 26, and the stores will be officially launched on February 9 this year.
As expected, at the first stage the product will not be sold in Russia, and will be available only in three states: the US, Australia and the UK. This is due to the fact that Siri in HomePod still understands only in English.
Let's hope that in the near future the system will be adapted to Russian realities, and we will be able not only to officially buy HomePod in our country, but also fully use it.
It is worth noting that not all HomePod functions will be available immediately after the device appears on the market. According to the official site of Apple, support for stereo sound and synchronization with other speakers will be added with one of the next software updates later this year .

  3. In Cupertino already working on the creation of iOS 11.3, it follows from the materials of the official website of the company. The update will be released this spring and, in addition to standard fixes and performance improvements, will include advanced ARKit capabilities, cards in the Health application and performance monitoring mode.
The most important innovation of the update will be the function of monitoring the state of the battery. It will be available to owners of all models of the iPhone, starting with the sixth generation. Thanks to this innovation, users will always be aware of the level of deterioration of the battery.
A logical continuation of the described function will be the performance management mode. As promised by Tim Cook , with her help, users will be able to choose between the longer battery life of the smartphone or its speed.
The second of the most noteworthy innovations will be ARKit support for moving horizontally and animated objects. It is impossible not to mention the appearance of medical records in the "Health" application, which will be synchronized between medical institutions. Among other things, we note the support for Apple Music music video clips, business chats, new emoto, revised algorithms for tape formation in the News application, improvements in the security system, as well as the automatic sending of the location when applying for emergency help.

  4. 580 million dollars spent by the Russians to purchase mobile applications in 2017, calculated analysts App Annie. This is almost 30% more than in 2016, and 40% - than in 2015. The calculations take into account the total cost of users for software, located in the catalogs of the App Store and Google Play.
At the end of 2017, Russia entered the top 10 countries for the first time in terms of the cost of applications from Google Play. A year earlier, the country ranked 11th in the rating. The costs of Russian users in the App Store remained on the 12th place, as in the previous year.
It is also important to note that not only expenses grow, but average time that users spend in applications and services. The highest rate for Indonesia. Residents of this country spend in the annexes for 240 minutes a day. In the USA - 150 minutes, and in Russia - 140 minutes.

  5. Apple may stop supplying the iPhone X to China by summer this year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said, citing sources among retailers. The main factor is the low demand for the older iPhone in the Middle Kingdom.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will deliver 31 million iPhone X in the first half of the year 2018 instead of 50 million devices, as previously predicted. This was largely influenced by Chinese users who found the notch on the top of the display inappropriate, since many of the applications available in China work with it incorrectly. Also, the drop in demand is due to the high cost of the iPhone X.
Nevertheless, iPhone sales growth in the world will be 5% in the first half of this year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo. The analyst does not exclude the complete cessation of the production of the iPhone X in late summer, since Apple will need production facilities for the release of just three new smartphones based on the iPhone X.
