The next frontier in investing is ‘quantamental’ stock picking

Automation is changing out lives. There is no industry that is further along in this process than the financial sector.

FinTech was a move that started more than a decade ago. Computer algorithms were a part of Wall Street analysis for the last 30 years. Often, this led to bad results as was the case in the late 1990s with LTCM.

Quants, as they are called in the industry, are at the debate between fundamental and technical analysis. Over the years, there was a deep divide between the two camps.

Now, we are seeing a merging of them. With advancements in machine learning, it is easier for a large amount of data to be sifted through. This provides a fundamental analyist with insight he or she normally might not have.
