Where Art Meets Language- Self Introduction

A cheerly hello, from an Illustrator!

.
Hello Steemit community, my names Shellene.

I’m an Illustrator and a Linguist. I heard about Steemit several months back, but didn't take the time to share anything about myself, what i love and what I hope to add to this community.

As a creative/creator--- I personally make a big effort to not just distribute and circulate random things, but rather I aim to add useful insight to an ongoing discussion or simply build upon an understanding of a topic.

I try to “illustrate” what I see is really taking place alongside what's been said and create a community around topics that have directly impacted my life where I felt more communication was needed.

To me, being an artist and a linguist go hand in hand.

Seriously, I love it. Although I’m only wrapping up a degree in Linguistics (and not practising as a linguist) I stand confidently in my education, what I’ve learned experienced and researched regarding the purpose of language, the makeup of language (syntax, morphology, phonology, phonetics and socio- ling), and the entire science of human language and interaction.
Because although its mental processes are intangible, the effects it has are very much so real, effectual and causative.

Alongside my passion for language is my love for art, and here I see the intertwining dialogue. Not just spoken, but unspoken words, gestures, signs, symbols, embeddings, undertones, abstraction, and to sum it all communication of information/ideas.

In my areas of interest within the illustration, I focus on young adulthood/ emerging adulthood and children between 4-10 years of age. I love adults as subjects as well, as I like to focus on re-discovering one's passion, interests, and maintaining child-like dreaming and pursuit.

As of late, I wrapped up with an author who I illustrated a book for, and it's in the process of being printed.
I'm super excited to have my name FINALLY in print on literature, children's literature! I'm super excited about what's to come, but as this year comes to a close I am currently re-doing my entire portfolio.

To share the process with you all on Steemit would be amazing to document and get some discussion going to start my contributions here. I hope to meet many people and make some new friends!

To provide some scope of what I’d love to share, its content on :

  1. Illustration
  2. Cartooning
  3. Comics
  4. Tutorials
  5. Art as a tool for language acquisition
  6. Language learning
  7. and especially for fellow artists--- actionable strategies to help land clients (because building a business off your art is a real on going process).

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions and ideas, feel free to comment! I don't bite :)
