Starting the Year with Steemit…Excited!

As I write this introductory post, I am thrilled beyond imagining, nervous, and, ...petrified! Yes, I AM scared. You might wonder why. Well, Steemit is a fast-growing community filled with amazing people and talented individuals, and I feel blessed to have gotten on board this one-of-a-kind platform. I actually joined several days ago and rather than rushing in, I decided to take my time scouring the site.

I read great posts with quality content, came across helpful tutorials, and concluded that indeed the Steemit community thrives on good, quality content. This gave birth to my dilemma of self-doubt. Can I actually offer the value the Steemit community searches for? Boy, I do hope so. So, let’s get started, shall we?

Meet ME!

Who exactly is @peculiarerhis? For starters, my name is Peculiar Oghenetega Erhisohwode. Yeah, I know, my surname is quite a mouthful and most times, I go by the shortened form ‘Erhis’. A proud Nigerian citizen, I hail from Ethiope-West local government area in Delta State. I’m 21 years old, recently graduated from the university, and presently working on obtaining my Master's degree.

As the first child and first daughter of my parents, I have had this cloak of responsibility wrapped around me from birth. I have to make the right decisions, say the right things, be a good example, and all that. This has gone a long way in shaping my attitude towards life. I demand the best from myself. I like things organized and perfect, or at least nearly so. It was therefore no surprise that I fell in love with the ordered world of science, and before you know it, I was pursuing a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. While in the university, I decided to harness the previously unexplored potential within me: creative writing.

Why Steemit?

From a tender age, I’ve always loved books and other written works, simply for their ability to make you enjoy other people’s experiences vicariously. I feel the world is alright when I read a beautifully constructed sentence, or learn something new from a person’s words put on paper.

After encouragement from friends, I delved into writing and got great satisfaction from every article I wrote. I’ve come to realize that this is what I was born to do: write about anything, impact a meaningful lesson on my readers, and have immense fun while doing so. So, when I heard about Steemit, a community specifically created for such individuals, it was like I had found my life purpose.

What Exactly Am I Offering?

So, here I am, Steemians. I want to have fun doing what I love doing best. I want to reach out to people through simple writings about life and inspiration drawn from the daily, often-ignored activities and events happening in our environment and surroundings. I intend to do these through short meaningful stories, inspiring articles, book discussions, movie reviews, and yes, soccer highlights. You might not know this but I’m a huge fan of Real Madrid FC, mainly because of the C. Ronaldo factor. I mean, who doesn’t like a handsome hunk? Hala Madrid!

Conclusion

I’ve got to stop here. When I start writing, the brakes come off, and I don’t want people dozing off while reading my introductory post. That’s definitely a horrible way to start Steemit. So, in summary, I want to thank God (yes, I’m a believer!) for making it possible to witness the beginning of what would definitely be a glorious year. I also want to congratulate myself for eventually working up the courage to write this post.

Special shout out to those guys who made it possible for me to be here: @ned for creating this lovely community, @restandreign, @thelovejunkie, and @peacezo, my fellow Nigerian Steemians who introduced me to Steemit, and the following users for their helpful tutorials on topics ranging from how to set your profile picture to writing a killer introduction post: @ilyastarar, @surpassingGoogle, @thecryptofiend, @teemsteam, and @shayne. Major thanks to you guys, I’m greatly indebted.

Once again, Happy New Year, folks. It IS good to be here!
