#introduceyourself - Hi Steemit!

I am so happy and grateful that I got to hear about this amazing community (thanks @holisticmom). I’m so excited to be starting my Steemit journey.

Here’s some information about me:

I highly regard time as a resource in my life, and I have always worked towards having as much of it as possible, to feed into creative pursuits and my many hobbies. As a result, my twenties have been pretty dry on the dinero front. Hence, my DEEP dive into the world of freelancing, writing and blogging.

I have always written in some form or another, for pure enjoyment: poetry, short stories, articles for the student newspaper, a few stabs at a novel here and there.I figured; why not try to make money out of something I already do for fun? I am so excited for this next part in my writing journey here on Steemit.

Travel
I spent some time travelling and living in Central America, which was a fantastic experience. After volunteering at a Yoga and Permaculture retreat in Guatemala, the idea took hold that I could someday create something like that. I came to Spain full of excitement to learn to grow vegetables and continue learning and speaking Spanish.

These days, I love travelling in our van with my wonderful partner and our dog. We spend some of our lives living in different parts of the UK, and most of it living off-grid in Spain.

Passionately Curious
I am a passionately curious individual, particularly in regards to spirituality, meditation, and Yoga. The different ways that cultures and religions see the world are fascinating to me. I love to see if there are any useful bits that I can take with me into my own life.

It is my dream to write a book which ties it all together, a sort of spiritual patchwork quilt of my own design. But, before that I need to read a lot more books! I love reading. I have been known to have 4 or 5 books on the go, one for every different moment of the day.

I believe that there is a common ground between all religions, and it is possible that we all worship the same “great spirit,” the same energy, the same creative force in the universe. However, the ego likes to make us feel like we are separate. So, we formed lots of different religions out of the fundamental belief that there is something more to life than what we see with our eyes.

Yoga
Yoga Asana (posture) practice has been a part of my life since I was 16, I’m 29 now. What once was a purely physical practice, has grown to be so much more. I now love reading Yogic spiritual texts and exploring the other limbs of yoga rather than just Asana.

I have been teaching Yoga for the past 3 years, to the various people who pass through here. Once I had mostly gotten over my introvert revolt at the idea of teaching, (“what?! You’re going to stand in front of people and talk? Everyone focused on you? Preposterous!”) it has become a wonderful way for me to help support people, to watch them grow, and to expand my own knowledge and comfort zone.

Sketching
I love drawing very detailed sketches of yoga poses. It is an awesome way to connect with the anatomy of the human body in a different way, and through a different medium. The human body is fascinating! I love sketching animals, particularly dogs, as well as lions and big cats, or pretty much any animal really. I also try and draw human faces, to varying degrees of success: it’s not something that comes naturally to me!

Workaway and our Project
We have been Workaway (https://www.workaway.info/) hosts in Spain for the past 5 years. We have people from all over the world come to stay with us, and help us with our project in return for food and accommodation.

Off-grid Yoga Retreat
We want to create a place where people can come and experience the off-grid life, relax and unwind with Yoga and meditation, switch off from the digital life and reconnect with nature. We hope to hold yoga/creativity retreats, where during the day the participants work on their Prana, or life-force energy, with yoga and meditation; then in the evenings channel this into creative pursuits such as art, crafts and writing. We believe this could be a really healing and transformative experience.

My aim in this blog is to document our journey and process with the off-grid yoga retreat, and to weave in all of these things that I am passionate about. Thanks so much for reading!
