What are Aavegotchis?
Aavegotchis are crypto-collectibles that run on the Ethereum blockchain. These are backed by the ERC-721 standard. This standard is the same used in popular blockchain games like Cryptokitties, Axie Infinity and Cryptovoxels. Aavegotchis have three attributes that determine their overall value and rarity within the Aavegotchi metaverse. Attributes are collateral involvement, traits, and the items they are wearing. Here is a brief explanation of these elements:
Collateral Participation:
Each Aavegotchi ERC-721 NFT contains and manages an escrow address that is backed by Aave-backed ERC20 collateral, or “aToken.” The so-called aTokens generate yield through Aave's LendingPool, which increases the number of aTokens held in the wallet. Thus, the number of aTokens stored in the Aavegotchi escrow address will increase over time. Some examples of popular aTokens are aDAI, aUSDT, aLINK, aLEND, and aSNX.
Traits:
Aavegotchis have various traits that influence their rarity, their performance in mini-games, and the items they can equip. Some can be randomly generated at birth, and others depend on the user's interactions with the Aavegotchi.

How is the value of an Aavegotchi measured?
The value an Aavegotchi possesses comes from both its intrinsic value and its rarity value. Next we will see what is the intrinsic value and the value of its rarity:
Intrinsic value
Intrinsic value is the denominated value of the Aavegotchi Participating Collateral. If the Aavegotchi is staked with 15 aDAI, then the intrinsic value would be 15 aDAI, plus whatever extra aDAI has accumulated from the Loan Pool.
Initially, only ERC-20 tokens listed on the Aave platform (aTokens) will be available as collateral, however, once AavegotchiDAO launches, the community will be able to vote on which new collaterals to allow.

The rarity value is determined by calculating the rarity of each of each Aavegotchi's traits and equipped wearables within the Aavegotchi universe.
One feature that sets them apart from the rest of the NFTs is that rarity is not a fixed value on Aavegotchi, as it can change over time as Aavegotchis level up and equip different accessories. Following these characteristics, a rare Aavegotchi one week could become common, and vice versa, depending on the general distribution of traits and wearables within the Aavegotchi universe. This gives rise to a new concept known as 'rare farming'.
