- International Day for mines awareness is observed to spread awareness about the threat caused by landmines to the safety health and lives of civilians populations.
- Some might think how a mine can be a threat to can civilian, it's because during wars like in world war land mines were used quite to often and all are not removed till date. And with increasing population people are moving to new places, and what if someone choose wrong place to set their house without having proper care. There could be a possibility to unfortunately trigger one such live mine.
- The theme for 2018 is advancing protection, peace and development.
- United Nation declared on 8th December 2005 that 4th April shall be observed as International Day for mine awareness and assistance in mine action.
