Start with WHY

While describing the objective of his bridge construction project in a rural village( one of my course participant) said: ‘ Lives of children in this rural village has been transformed by this bridge. Before this bridge, many parents cannot afford the bus fare to go to the secondary school in the nearby town. As such, many children were forced to end their school life after primary school. Imagine the future of these children without access to even formal secondary school’’

Every project manager must be able to describe the purpose of her project. Besides managing the typical ‘triple constraint’, knowing ‘WHY’ of the project can provide meaning that inspires the project team and other relevant stakeholders. In this bridge project, the children ( our future leaders ) are among the key stakeholders.

As William Bruce Cameron said: ‘ Not everything that can be counted counts and not everything that counts can be counted’
