Introduction:-

Have you ever felt tired/sleepy after eating lots of sweets empty stomach? Well the cause of that tiredness is something called an insulin spike. We will be talking about insulin spike in this blog.

What is insulin?

  • when we eat food our body break it down to a simpler form for our our body to utilise which form is called glucose. But to utilise that glucose our cells need to absorb them and insulin is a hormone released by our pancreas which makes our cells capable of absorbing all the glucose.

Insulin spike :-

  • sweets and sugary food items are already in the form of glucose and our body doesn't do any work to break it down and it needs to be absorbed all at once, so our body releases a large amounts insulin which causes insulin spike.

Why we feel tired after insulin spike?

  • Since all the food(if it's sweet) needs to be absorbed all at once. Our body experiences a rapid spike in blood sugar levels and after some time when it comes back to normal we feel tired and sleepy.
  • Eating more refined sugar can hinder the quality of your sleep.

Effects of insulin spike on fitness:-

  • Eating sweets or sugary food items or beverages can really mess up your training regime.
  • It can add extra unwanted and unnecessary calories which will make you do more work but still having bad results.
  • It will not let you cut down fat easily.
