Lentil Soup

This recipe is the most basic food which every Indian eat in their meal almost every day. We call it a Dal , Dal means Lentils and usually is eaten with rice. Lentil is full of protein and a good when eaten in dinner for light tummy also good those who work out and want protein in their diet. Having only dal and salad in dinner I lost 2kgs in 1 week.

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup any lentils (to name Split Black gram, Split Green gram, Split Red gram, Split Red Lentil, Bengal gram)
  2. 1 Medium chopped Onion
  3. 1 Small Tomato
  4. 1 Green Chilly
  5. Curry leaves
  6. Pinch of asafoetida ( Good for tummy and digestion)
  7. 1tsp Cumin Seeds
  8. 1 Table spoon Vegetable Oil
  9. Salt to taste
  10. Coriander Leaves
  11. Turmeric
  12. Water

Method:

A. Wash the lentils well and soak in the water for about 10 mins, means while we can start with the seasoning.

B. In a shallow pan and pressure cooker add oil, Cumin seeds, Curry leaves, Asofoetida and chopped onions and the onions starts turning brown add chopped tomato let it cook for 5 mins

C. As the onions and tomato gets soft add soaked dal and 2 cups of water.

D. Add turmeric and salt and let it cook for 15 mins in medium flame.

E. When you see the dal is getting soft and is melting away with slurry consistency add coriander leaves and let it simmer for 5 mins

F. Switch off the gas and serve in the deep bowl, Relish with roti or with rice or simply like a soup.
