The first 12000 hp freight locomotive WAG 12 under testing in Alstom MoR JV Factory

A remarkable progress in Indian Railway freight traffic. Most powerful, 12000 hp, all-electric “Make-In-India” locomotive is ready now. Alstom announced the completion of its first all-electric locomotive from its state-of-the-art locomotive facility at Madhepura, Bihar, on schedule.

In line with the Government’s and Indian Railways’ target towards 100% electrification and towards sustainable mobility, these new locomotives will not only bring down operating costs for the Railways but will significantly cut down greenhouse gas emissions as well. Induction of 12,000 HP locomotives will be a transformational step as it will allow Indian Railways to run heavy haul and long haul trains over the Dedicated Freight Corridor.

Apart from creating thousands of jobs directly and indirectly, a strong localised supply chain is created for this project, with 90% of the components sourced locally. A great progress for faster and better freight transportation.
