Sassi & Punnu - THE LOVE STORY

I am going to tell a folk love story of ancient India( Current location in Pakistan), hope you like it.

There was a city called Bhambore in ancient India there a girl was born into a Hindu family. Their parents went to astrologer to predict her future, the astrologer predicted that she would suffer tragically in her love for a man of another religion.

At that time, there was a lot of religious hatred people. The father, fearing for his family’s disgrace, put the child in a box made with wood and let it float on the river water.

In the river there was a Muslim laundry man washing his cloths, and his name is Muhammad, saw the box and delighted that it contained a child. He thought god has given him this child as he childless for long time, he took her home given to his wife.

They named her Sassi and started raising up as their own daughter. Sassi grown up and became very beautiful maiden, she looked like an angel, words not enough to explain her beauty. She became known as the Moon of Bhambore and people around many villages talk about her beauty.

Thousands of miles and a desert away a town called Kech Mekran, there lived a Balochi chieftain a musk trader, he had four sons. His youngest one was very handsome and smarter than his three brothers, his name is Punnu, When he heard of Sassi, he decided to see her at least once in his lifetime. He started his journey to Bhambore where he set himself up as a seller of musk.

The Bhambore people were like to buy his musk, his reputation spread. The beautiful Sassi also came to buy musk from him. Both looked at each other and surprised, they felt some thing in their heart. Sassi often visited his shop to meet him, they fell in love.

When her father Muhammad came to know their love feared, he worried for Sassi. Sevaral wealthy young men had asked for Sassi’s hand but she had refused them all.
