After a long long time, I finally listened to a DJ set I had bookmarked on my Soundcloud page for some time. Must've been something like a year ago... oh wait... must be three years ago. When I first listened to a recording by the German artist Cio D'Or *([post](https://ecency.com/post/@edje/never-a-dull-moment-from-ciara-to-engage-and-cio-d-or))*, it was the auto-continue selection by said music service which brought me to this Spanish artist under the name of 'Svreca'. Like the other day *([see my previous music post](https://peakd.com/hive-192806/@edje/what-do-driving-views-and-pantha-du-prince-have-in-common--possibly-an-inspiring-story-for-you))* again I found myself for a little more than nine hours driving my car. This time from my temporary home to my permanent home. Back from Switzerland/France to Amsterdam. The tiny city landmarked as the capital of this country. The country that would've been underwater to our heads if it was not for our cleverly designed and deployed dykes. The perfect opportunity to listen to the almost four hour audio recording. ![](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/edje/23uFXnHqXEtVR88AQiKoQHXvFrz412okFoLokoRCeXyrBsTEWUC9KQM15qv2RESTcD4uX.jpg) **In Summary** In summary, I can inform you Svreca's is now on my artist list to follow while I also created yet another task, the task to further dig into the artist's work, from other DJ recordings to his own productions. Though I must admit, the four hours also brought some less pleasant sounds to my ears. But, the positives by far outnumber the negatives, therefore this one is a keeper! **Sound System does Matter** While driving tourist routes, crossing from France to Germany across mountain roads instead of the highway, the sun high in the sky, Sverca started to sound through my default car sound system for the first time. Since then, I stopped and restarted five times at a minimum. Nope, not because my wish to listen faded away, but mostly because of some disturbing sounds in some of the tracks, mostly high and/or distorted frequencies. A little too much to my taste. Turned out my car sound setup was part of the issue. Added to that the noise of the tires and wind resulted in the subtle parts of the arrangements going lost. When home, listening to the whole thing again including the remaining three hours, I can simply draw the conclusion that the sound system matters! Sennheizer headphones connected to my laptop made the four hours pass by like a fly! {is that a saying in the English language? When so, does it mean what I intend to say? "pass by in no time"?...aaaaahhhh whatever 😉 } **Little Intermezzo** More than several times I started to listen to Svreca's recording simply because it triggered my few brain cells positively. And at least the same amount of times my thoughts went to my car HIFI system I have stored somewhere in my basement. For at least one and half decades I was installing this system every time when I switched cars. A system not consisting of that many components, but a system that brought the best ever sound into my ears of all that I've heard in cars. Now I hear you thinking: "What to hell does this guy have? Is he serious? Can't be as good as the 16/20 pieces set up in a Mercedes AMG super da luxe and fast version? Or a BMW 750 IL with a top-of-the-line system?" Well, I must admit, I never heard the sounds of these systems. I just know that the sound coming from said sound system, was darn good to my ears 🙃 I remember very vividly the situation I had with a car dealer when I was about to place an order for a new car. I asked the sales guy, who was the son of the owner, what they could do to allow me to build my own setup in the console. By default, this car didn't allow this. Instead of an answer, this guy started to talk about the option for a 12-speaker setup with a HIFI unit that integrated navigation, a larger display (well not that large, but large for the time) and all. Obviously, I wanted a test run. "Four thousand Euro option only", he said. "For the quality of the sounds and all, a super option to take", he continued. He was super surprised when I started to giggle. When asked why I was giggling and subsequently I answered him, his face turned to an expression of disbelief. His mouth started to emit: "That can't be true!" Needless to say that I told him my system was much better and had cost me quite a bit less {not too much less, but kinda like 60% of that option value with just 5-speaker set two mid/high tone speakers, a bass speaker and an amplifier). You should've seen his face when he finally listened to my setup. My almost ex-car was just in front of the showroom in the parking lot, with the said sound system still onboard. I had a big laugh when he told me: "This is not at all worth the option in the new car!" The end result: He checked in with the head of his maintenance centre to see what they could do to make room in the mid-console to house the control unit of my sound system. > Those of you interested in the sound setup: > > - Clarion control unit > - MB Quart QM mid/high tone speaker set 2x > - Phase Linear Aliant bass speaker > - Helix amplifier > > All connected with 4 and 5 mm² speaker cables and 20mm² power cable. Since 2005 or so I started switching cars a lot, whilst placing the control unit became increasingly more difficult. After this period, I got into a low switching behaviour again up to such low frequency that I drive the same car since 2011. Although this one is designed not to allow any 'foreign' audio control unit in the console, nor in the middle, nor at the sides, I should've taken the effort to reconstruct my car to house this audio setup. Not only recently I would've benefited hugely from this, but for all the past hours, days, weeks, and months I spend time in my car in the last 12 years. Should I still make the effort? Not sure how long I'll keep driving this one. Could be short to relatively short to a pretty long time still. The latter is definitely a possibility. The car is of Japanese make. Everything you always heard about Japanese cars, turned out to be more than 100% true. The mechanics (and electrical stuff) are perfect and never broke down on me. In all the years I drive this car, never ever have I had to spend more on maintenance than the usual stuff. Nothing ever broke down. If the future will look the same, my car and I may be close friends for another decade to come. The BIG disadvantage of this car and something to consider: It's a five doors car, making it super difficult to hide the amplifier and bass speaker from plain sight. It's not that we don't have peeps going around my city and country stealing whatever they seem valuable on the somewhat underground second-hand markets.

**My Review: Positives** Let me see, where shall I start? Owwww... Why not give you all the points in summary instead of writing a paragraph too long? - Never dull: though minimal, dynamic - Different because of the white noise -like sounds in mid and high-frequency bands - Beautiful combination of various drum patterns: love most track arrangements - Great Tribal / African drum passages - High Energy vibe gives the feeling of going at high speeds in any direction one can imagine - Super build of the DJ set itself with tracks that fit together - Extreme long mixes: up to and above 2 minutes - Am not a specialist but seems at times 3 decks are used **My Review: Critique** As you've already read above, something disturbing with the music. Or was it the car audio system in combination with the car sounds itself? Now I know for sure, it wasn't just that. Even at home with some better material, some of the tracks and passages in the set are somewhat disturbing to my ears still. Better to deal with at home with better sound quality but still not super pleased with these nerve-racking sounds. More specifically, the industrial, white noise-like sounds (drums and long stretched sounds): - Disturbing Sounds that at times was too loud - Disturbing Sounds that pushed the drum patterns too far back All in all quite bearable, because it affected the first hour mostly. **What's the Music about?** Almost forgot to describe the music. Bits and pieces you could already detect from the above, or simply by pressing the play button and joining me on a journey through the universe. But if you really want to read about it, check the next tiny paragraph: Four hours of slowish highly minimal techno with a substantial level of haunting feel to it. Many subtle drum patterns in various layers and volumes. Some beautiful compositions. When listening casually, we probably will not hear much of these subtleties. In such circumstances, we may fail to hear the dynamic, energetic beauty in these arrangements altogether. I love to listen while in chill mode; No tasks at hand; Eyes closed. A piece of advice I give you as well when trying to 'digest' this piece of music. Am wondering a little if I will appreciate this set more when listening at home, to listening in a club while trying to move my body on the dance floor.
