📚¿DE QUÉ TRATA?📚 / 📚WHAT'S IT ABOUT?📚

El libro inicia con una extraña enfermedad que condena al sueño a un niño pequeño llamado Antonio Jimenez. La enfermedad consiste en hundirlo en un profundo sueño que se extenderá por años. Antonio logra sobrevivir a través de un mundo que le es ajeno y ahora es considerado una pieza del mundo anterior. Tras décadas, el mundo es testigo de una transformación que afecta cada sistema y ahora es gobernado totalmente por mujeres, quienes han simplificado y casi erradicado la mayoría de los impulsos "salvajes" que impregnaban a la humanidad. Dentro de esta nueva realidad, los hombres no son necesarios para la procreación y son genéticamente modificados para suprimir lo que los hace incompatibles para este nuevo mundo. La industria, la política y la ciencia son manejados enteramente por mujeres, quienes también han cometido el error suprimir todo lo proveniente del pasado, provocando una aguda ignorancia elegida que rechaza todo lo involucrado con el género masculino y así gobernar sin interferencias. Sin embargo, Nirvana Castro, una de las encargadas más importantes de esta era moderna, descubre en sí misma comportamientos y curiosidades que no deberían aflorar, lo que la llevará a poner su vida en riesgo. La nimiedad que ha quedado atrás escondida entre sombras, tendrá la capacidad de arruinarlo todo, tal vez.

Within this new reality, men are unnecessary for procreation and are genetically modified to suppress the traits that make them incompatible with this new world. Industry, politics, and science are managed entirely by women, who have also made the mistake of suppressing everything from the past, leading to a deliberate and acute ignorance that rejects anything associated with the male gender—all to govern without interference. However, Nirvana Castro, one of the most important leaders of this modern era, discovers within herself behaviors and curiosities that should not surface—a realization that will lead her to put her life at risk. The triviality that has been left behind, hidden in the shadows, may have the power to ruin everything. * * *

📚RESUMEN BREVE📚 / 📚BRIEF SUMMARY📚

Año 1986, un ataque de "pannegolitis" condena al letargo indefinido a un niño de ocho años llamado Antonio Jimenez. Sus familiares se lamentan y los médicos no consiguen cómo hacer que recupere la consciencia. El pronóstico es desolador, una vida desperdiciada. Un sueño profundo e inmune a la muerte. Mientras Antonio duerme ajeno a su alrededor, el mundo sufre cambios inesperados y revolucionarios. El feminismo se convierte en el todo a nivel global, no solo logrando ingresar en cada esfera sino dominándolas y con ello casi suprimiendo por completo al sexo masculino en todo el mundo. La dinámica se transforma, los roles cambian y el mundo se ve inmerso en una nueva era. Un paso importante para cimentar el cambio es la invención de la "autonacimenesia", cuyo objetivo es el proceso artificial mediante incubadoras para la reproducción humana, gracias a la sustancia "autonacimentina" producida directamente en Alemania. Un logro que deja obsoleta la necesidad de interacción entre ambos sexos para procrear, además las modificaciones genéticas que pueden llevarse a cabo, optimizan el comportamiento de la nueva sociedad con respecto a la casi inexistente población masculina. Los hombres de esta era son copias perfeccionadas y alteradas físicamente para que no representen una amenaza o desacuerdo ante el nuevo orden.

Año 2011, Nirvana Castro, quien fue concebida por medios naturales antes de que el mundo cambiara, desempeña el cargo de ministra de Aviación guarda cierto anhelo por las costumbres del pasado. Tales como, consumir comida preparada y no el nuevo método de utilizar una pastilla para reemplazar un platillo tradicional. Uno de los inventos de la nueva era. Entre la curiosidad y el deber, Nirvana descubre que "la ficha número 7" que permanecía en el letargo, no solo ha roncado y hablado, sino que también ha despertado en el Hospital Federal, asesinando a la doctora que le estaba realizando una incisión en nombre de la investigación. La ministra de Aviación, en contra de todo lo que se le ha inculcado y de su buen juicio, oculta a "la ficha número 7" en una zona prohibida y posteriormente en su propia casa.

La fuga de lo que se creía era una momia del pasado, comienza a crear problemáticas cada vez más graves. Por un lado, Alemania organiza un sabotaje contra Venezuela basándose en "el secuestro" de una inventora alemana y la desaparición de "la ficha número 7", negándose a seguir abasteciendo al país de "autonacimentina", poniendo en riesgo el futuro de la población nacional. Y por otro lado, una doctora de gran renombre pero que es ignorada hasta el último minuto, expone que existe una manera de lograr la independencia con Alemania si se recupera a la supuesta momia. Argumenta que "la ficha número 7" realmente se trata del último hombre legítimo que queda y el único capaz de restaurar la reproducción natural que existía en el pasado. El rechazo al salvajismo de la reproducción natural es evidente, pues se considera una aberración y un retroceso, pero ante las presiones de Alemania la búsqueda de Antonio se vuelve en prioritaria.

Haciendo todo lo posible para ocultarlo, Nirvana y su asistente Fifí interactúan con Antonio, quien refleja no saber nada de este mundo y recordando vagamente los escasos años que vivió antes de la enfermedad. Sin embargo, la cercanía entre Nirvana y Antonio se vuelve cada vez íntima y su relación más sólida, al punto de experimentar juntos el salvajismo de aquello a que llamaban "amor", hasta consumarlo sin saber exactamente lo están haciendo. Puro instinto y biología conforman el desarrollo de los hechos posteriores. Con dificultad logran disfrazar y burlar la nueva investigación en curso para encontrar a Antonio, pero los cambios físicos en el cuerpo de Nirvana se manifiestan dificultando el desarrollo competente de su trabajo antew sus superioras. Finalmente y a punto de atraparlos, Nirvana, Antonio y Fifí, quienes poseen orden de detención, huyen en uno de los inventos a cargo de la ministra de Aviación. Con una capacidad de 1.500 kilómetros por hora, el avión Zaeta, se convierte en la última salida para huir. Tiempo después, un reporte de exploradoras alemanas, indica que se han obtenido avistamientos de un grupo muy pequeño de humanos viviendo entre la vegetación de la selva del Norte. Vistiendo "guayucos" y comiendo frutas o animales obtenidos por trampas. El hombre, las dos mujeres y los cinco niños robustos, demuestran estar sanos y poseer la fisionomía típica de los salvajes. En especial por la abundante barba negra del hombre, rasgo que no poseen los obtenidos en incubadoras.

A key step in cementing this change is the invention of “autonacimenesia,” which aims to facilitate artificial human reproduction through incubators, thanks to the substance “autonacimentina,” produced directly in Germany. This achievement renders the need for interaction between the sexes for procreation obsolete; furthermore, the genetic modifications that can be carried out optimize the behavior of the new society with respect to the nearly nonexistent male population. The men of this era are perfected copies, physically altered so that they pose no threat or challenge to the new order. > In the year 2011, Nirvana Castro—who was conceived naturally before the world changed—serves as Minister of Aviation and harbors a certain longing for the customs of the past. Such as eating prepared meals rather than the new method of using a pill to replace a traditional dish. One of the inventions of the new era. Torn between curiosity and duty, Nirvana discovers that “Chip Number 7,” which had been in a state of dormancy, has not only snored and spoken but has also awakened at the Federal Hospital, murdering the doctor who was performing an incision on it in the name of research. The rejection of the “barbarism” of natural reproduction is evident, as it is considered an aberration and a step backward, but in the face of pressure from Germany, the search for Antonio becomes a priority. > Doing everything they can to hide it, Nirvana and her assistant Fifí interact with Antonio, who seems to know nothing about this world and vaguely recalls the few years he lived before his illness. However, the bond between Nirvana and Antonio grows increasingly intimate, and their relationship becomes stronger, to the point where they experience together the wildness of what they called “love,” even consummating it without fully realizing what they’re doing. Pure instinct and biology drive the unfolding of subsequent events. With great difficulty, they manage to disguise themselves and evade the new investigation underway to find Antonio, but the physical changes in Nirvana’s body become apparent, hindering her ability to perform her duties effectively before her superiors. Finally, just as they are about to be caught, Nirvana, Antonio, and Fifí—all of whom have arrest warrants out against them—flee in one of the inventions developed by the Minister of Aviation. Capable of reaching 1,500 kilometers per hour, the Zaeta aircraft becomes their last chance to escape. Some time later, a report from German explorers indicates that a very small group of humans has been sighted living among the vegetation of the Northern Jungle. They are wearing “guayucos” and eating fruit or animals caught in traps. The man, the two women, and the five sturdy children appear to be healthy and possess the typical physical features of savages—especially the man’s thick black beard, a trait not found in those raised in incubators. * * *

📚OPINIÓN PERSONAL📚 / 📚PERSONAL OPINION📚

Entre la perdida de la identidad, la memoria, la cultura y los supuestos avances tecnológicos y sociales que nos arroja la novela de Pepe Alemán (para distraernos); también encontramos temas como la deshumanización del hombre, el costo del progreso y el desborde de soberbia femenina como las bases de una sociedad que al inicio parece el planteamiento de un mundo posible. Sin embargo, el retorno del foco central y encubierto, parte desde los rastros de migajas del pasado, lo que desencadenará el caos de un supuesto mundo perfecto. Dichos rastros del pasado, como la existencia de mujeres antes del nuevo mundo donde sucedió un reinicio de la sociedad, la misma permanencia de la ficha número 7 en el mundo nuevo a pesar de no tener cabida en él y registros del mundo anterior, son los que ocasionarán la desobediencia y la curiosidad hacia la otredad, que en este caso sería el hombre en sí. La contaminación del impulso curioso podría destruir la perspectiva de la vida de todas las mujeres y su gobierno, pero a la vez se impone con base a esa búsqueda de respuestas la necesidad de un hombre en un mundo sin ellos. El giro entre considerarlos inferiores e irrelevantes a convertirse en una necesidad o la respuesta esperanzadora para la procreación y una vida idealizada argumentada por la naturaleza, solo sirve para enaltecer la mirada vanidosa del orden de las cosas. Mientras que se le restituye el valor a la figura masculina como un hallazgo restaurador, se pone en duda la eficacia con que la mujer podría regir al mundo. Mas allá del control social y el avance cuestionable de la tecnología, se denota en la novela una idea violenta o extremista de supresión y rechazo hacia el hombre. Lo cual puede producir un conflicto latente para ambos sexos. El lenguaje satírico y crítico que utiliza el autor no suaviza el impacto de la reflexión que se realiza al leer la novela, sin importar si se es hombre o mujer. Esto debido a que, siendo hombre el trato que se les asigna en la novela puede considerarse denigrante, mientras que siendo mujer la descripción del carente intelecto o manejo competente de la sociedad puede considerarse ofensivo. Para ambas partes, «El regreso de Eva» puede funcionar como detonante al explotar las perspectivas negativas desde donde se ven mutuamente, incentivando la lucha entre los géneros. Si bien la inversión de los roles de género en la obra puede entrever la deshumanización y escaso valor con el que se le considera a la mujer en el mundo actual, sigue siendo una representación burlesca, ya que desde que se establece el nuevo mundo gobernado por mujeres, todas pierden parte de sus emociones y facultades. Planteando que la única manera en las que pueden recuperarlas es accediendo a aquello que está presuntamente olvidado o prohibido, como el amor y la procreación natural, dándole a este sentimiento y practica una connotación de cura y asignación “natural” para las cuales las mujeres estarían destinadas. Por supuesto, además de admitir la superioridad del hombre como intelectual y guía que puede salvar a la humanidad de su desvío antinatural del orden de las cosas. Por otro lado, el autor crea esta distopia de forma directa, sencilla y estilísticamente poco adornada, lo que le permite establecer una conexión inmediata con quien esté leyendo; simple y eficaz. La ironía hacia la narración que se digiere, predispone al humor y escepticismo, marcando un cuestionamiento de la utopía alcanzada antes del caos. Se mantiene como una sátira social y aborda temas sensibles para la época en la que fue escrita. Sin duda, el panorama presentado en la obra de Pepe Alemán puede servir como un espejo para analizar las dinámicas tanto de poder, de género y sociedades, pero resalta sin problemas su punto de vista unilateral de que la mujer tal vez no ha sido creada para gobernar. Por lo cual me permito compartir la declaración de Simone de Beauvoir "El hombre es un ser que se define a sí mismo, mientras que la mujer es definida por el hombre”. > Amid the loss of identity, memory, and culture, and the supposed technological and social advances that Pepe Alemán’s novel presents to us (to distract us), we also find themes such as the dehumanization of humanity, the cost of progress, and the overflow of female arrogance as the foundations of a society that at first seems like the blueprint for a possible world. However, the return of the central, hidden focus begins with the scattered crumbs of the past, which will unleash chaos in this supposedly perfect world. > These traces of the past—such as the existence of women before the new world, where society was reset; the very persistence of “File No. 7” in the new world despite having no place there; and records of the previous world—are what will spark disobedience and curiosity toward otherness, which in this case would be men themselves. The contamination of the impulse to be curious could destroy the outlook on life for all women and their government, but at the same time, this search for answers gives rise to the need for a man in a world without them. The shift from viewing men as inferior and irrelevant to seeing them as a necessity—or the hopeful answer for procreation and an idealized life justified by nature—serves only to exalt the vain perspective of the natural order. While the value of the male figure is restored as a restorative discovery, the effectiveness with which women could rule the world is called into question. > Beyond social control and the questionable advancement of technology, the novel conveys a violent or extremist idea of suppression and rejection of men. This can create a latent conflict for both sexes. The satirical and critical language used by the author does not soften the impact of the reflection that arises while reading the novel, regardless of whether the reader is a man or a woman. This is because, for men, the treatment they receive in the novel can be considered degrading, while for women, the portrayal of a lack of intellect or competent management of society can be considered offensive. For both parties, _The Return of Eve_ can act as a catalyst by highlighting the negative perspectives from which they view one another, fueling the struggle between the genders. > Although the reversal of gender roles in the play may hint at the dehumanization and low regard with which women are viewed in today’s world, it remains a satirical portrayal, since once the new world ruled by women is established, all of them lose part of their emotions and faculties. It suggests that the only way they can regain these is by accessing what is supposedly forgotten or forbidden—such as love and natural procreation—thereby imbuing this sentiment and practice with a connotation of healing and a “natural” purpose for which women are supposedly destined. Of course, this also implies the superiority of men as intellectuals and guides who can save humanity from its unnatural deviation from the natural order of things. > On the other hand, the author creates this dystopia in a direct, straightforward, and stylistically unadorned manner, which allows him to establish an immediate connection with the reader—simple and effective. The irony directed at the narrative itself sets the stage for humor and skepticism, questioning the utopia that was achieved before the chaos. It remains a social satire and addresses sensitive issues for the era in which it was written. Undoubtedly, the landscape presented in Pepe Alemán’s work can serve as a mirror for analyzing the dynamics of power, gender, and society, but it clearly highlights his one-sided viewpoint that women may not have been created to govern. For this reason, I would like to share Simone de Beauvoir’s statement: “Man is a being who defines himself, while woman is defined by man.” * * *

Es un narrador omnisciente en tercera persona que frecuentemente irrumpe en la historia. Pepe Alemán es el seudónimo del escritor y periodista cumanés Federico León Madriz (1896-1953). Durante los años de la dictadura gomecista en Venezuela, sobrevivió trabajando en el diario de la mañana La Esfera, donde su pensamiento divergente encontró refugio. Era un autor hábil en la redacción coloquial y producía populares programas radiales dirigidos a mujeres. Su seudónimo "Pepe Alemán" fue tomado del nombre de una conocida esquina caraqueña. > Pepe Alemán is the pen name of Federico León Madriz (1896–1953), a writer and journalist from Cumaná. During the years of the Gómez dictatorship in Venezuela, he made a living working at the morning newspaper _La Esfera_, where his dissenting views found a safe haven. He was a skilled writer in a conversational style and produced popular radio programs aimed at women. His pen name, “Pepe Alemán,” was taken from the name of a well-known street corner in Caracas. * * *
