Intro to Natural Building Course

Today we are excited to welcome a diverse group of international students to our “Intro to Natural Building Course”. This is the 2nd year we’ve taught this course and we are grateful and humbled by the the growing interest and support. Taught by industry professionals with a combined 15 years of experience in permaculture design, natural building design, and farm management, this week-long immersive course introduces both traditional and modern natural building techniques aimed at empowering participants to design and construct their own regenerative spaces.

In addition to providing the necessary tools, skills and confidence through hands-on-application, we’ll also work on strengthening communication, creative problem solving and analytical skills. We’ll be covering a wide range of topics stemming from laying foundations and constructing roofs to the specific challenges of excavating and working with raw, locally sourced materials such as cob, adobe, bamboo, and natural plasters.

A highlight of this unique and interactive experience is deepening our understanding of the local indigenous culture by exploring how they integrate natural building techniques into the fabric of their lives. With a strong understanding of the importance of community and cohesiveness, this hands-on experience will culminate in the construction of a working adobe oven that will be placed in the home of a local mayan’s family.

A natural extension of permaculture, this course is designed for those with a deep desire to return to their roots, reconnect with nature’s cycles and rhythms and contribute to positive change.
