Planted a couple aronia berry bushes today. They are the first two plants to go in the new food Forest Area my chickens prepped for me. Will also be planting other bushes like blueberries and pineapple sage at the southern Edge of this food Forest.
The aronia berry AKA chokeberry is a very tart tasting berry. They're very high in antioxidants and can help with urinary functions and blood pressure.
I think it took me about 7 minutes to plant both of these and two of those minutes were taking pictures. There's about 4 inches of wood chips and leaf mulch on top of the soil. The soil itself is a very Sandy rich soil and is easy to dig.
After taking the aronia berry out of the bag it was easier to tell how deep to plant it. You want the soil about where it was before it was pulled up for transplant. Then push the mulch back over and patted it down.
The first two plants in the new food Forest Area!
These are some Elderberry that are going to be behind the smaller bushes at the southern Edge.
