It being Chaos Friday again, I didn’t get outside to plant until 7:45 and then had to come in to do the milk order. I finally got really going by 8:30. I got these artichokes in and started mulching them.

My helper friend was here and he fed the seedlings then came to help in the garden. I laid out the next row so we’d have a guide for mulching the artichokes. Once they were done, I brought over the onions.

This row was Cortland storage onions and at the far end there was 10’ of Dakota Tears storage onions. My helper friend helped to plant them with me. Then we set about mulching. I did the fiddly bits between the plants, he did the big areas.

Then we laid out the next row and he broadforked it. We had to stop because I had to get ready to go to the Medicinal Plant Sale. My general helper arrived and we headed out.

It was up in the hilltowns and was a nice looking farm.

It turned out my helper knew the family, as they were homeschoolers too. She got some basil and cilantro and I found the 5 plants on my list: arnica, amaranth, hoary skullcap, bearded tongue foxglove, and sneezeweed.

We did a couple of errands and I took it easy the rest of the afternoon. It had gotten hot and was very humid.

It’s to get worse tomorrow. On Saturday my window lady is coming and I plan to finish all the big windows on the 2nd floor. Then I hope to get at least 4 done in the living room, and we’ll see where we are at, whether we can get more done. We’ll quit at 12:30.
