Post breakfast snooze

On Tuesday I woke at 3AM and couldn’t get back to sleep so I read for a couple hours and got up at 5AM. I got the post up, cleaned the kitchen, put the laundry away, and started setting up for making the last of the sauerkraut.

Before my helper friend arrived at 9:30AM, the mulch hay man arrived on his big tractor with his big bush hog mower.

He started mowing out on the back 40 first then moved to the middle pasture. By then my helper had arrived and we were in the thick of making sauerkraut. I had just finished cleaning up and he had gone to do errands when the propane for the year arrived.

We have a 500 gallon tank and it needed 300 gallons to fill it. So now we are set for another year. The driver was admiring my pumpkins and gourds so I offered him some of the gourds still in the garden. He took 2 of the colored ones.

The mulch man finished the mowing and I paid him, so it was a huge outlay the first of October.

The extra fridge’s top shelf is nearly full of quart jars of sauerkraut. There’s some on the bottom shelves of both the fridge and the door. And I have to get at least 3 more jars in by next week…

My helper returned from errands and he went out to harvest squashes and gourds. There had been a huge Sweet Meat squash out in the Small garden that I was looking forward to. It looked amazing. But when he picked it up, it had rotted on the bottom. Sigh… So I just got this little Sweet Meat.

The Small garden will get cleaned out on Thursday. I hope to finish it and get the tarps down before too many more acorns fall. I hope to be able to put the tarps around the flower row, but we will see.

The afternoon sun looked really pretty in the living room, but the camera didn’t really catch it.

My youngest brother came home and said they’d gotten everything cleaned out and set up for my mom to go home to CT on Wednesday. Behind the 2 chairs there was a wall that made a bedroom. They’d taken it down to have room for the hospital bed. My middle brother’s family spent a couple days doing that and massive cleaning and the transformation is wonderful.

On Wednesday I have exercise class in the morning, and memory testing in the afternoon. The contractor is coming late afternoon to do more work on the trellis for the grapes. So another busy day.
