Building our Adobe Oven is one of the Greatest Gifts we have ever Given us! We use it quit often for our baking and slow cooking. It uses very little wood to heat it up about 1 12 x 12 log and some sticks. After it is warm it will cook all day and all night. The adobe oven is worth your time to build one.
The first step is a good base. I built one out of rocks and cob (adobe). Very important to make is solid.
I used bricks and cob to make the doorway and cooking area. The plywood helps it to stay in shape while you build up till it dries.
Mix your cob with sifted clay, straw and water. Insert feet walk until smooth.
Make into little balls for easy use.
Build a sand castle for the size you want inside your oven.
Fill in low spots!
Cover in wet newspaperÂ
Cover with at least 4 inches thick of cob
Let dry. Then dig out sand
Only dig to the paper
