I just had thai take away, sawadee-kap! And took me back to Bangkok 2019 a little bit. The woman who prepared it was originally from Thailand but had been living in Netherlands already for a long time. I practiced my rusty Thai and it didn't work out to a decent conversation. However, adding a Chang beer, made it all damn good. Even the recent heatwave brought in that Thai memory some more. But as temperatures lowered back to normal average, reality sunk in. HiveFest gets closer and closer to its Amsterdam edition coming 15 to 18 September!
In this post I want to shine a light on the booked venue for Conference Day 1 of HiveFest 2022:
Venue Day 1: Eye Film Museum
The iconic building across Amsterdam Central Station had been opened 10 years ago on the banks of the River IJ. A snake like white eccentric modern sharply shaped form houses 4 cinema rooms and is home to the Eye Film Institute, an organisation dedicated to preservering and educating about cinema history.
It is here where we have Cinema 1 and its foyer housing HiveFest Conference Day 1. A beautiful location close to the city center, in the upcoming booming north side of Amsterdam.
Inside the Eye you could take some time in between presentations to visit the permanent collection, have a drink on the waterfront terrace or wonder around and check some cinema memorabilia. Get to the Eye Film Museum from Volkshotel or really anywhere in the city by heading for Amsterdam Central Station, exit on the north (River IJ) - side and take the free 1-minute ferries heading to "Buiksloterweg" (!!). Its literally a one minute crossing and ferries are free and go one by one every 5 minutes and take about 1 to 2 minutes to get across. Then head left and enter the EYE at 200 meters from the ferry docking.
Next door to the Eye you can find the somewhat touristy "This is Holland" exposition experience as well as the ADAM Lookout-Tower which gives you royal views of Amsterdam in its full glory. It is here where you also have "Europe Highest Swing" for the daredevils among you.
Time to head back to the EYE as we continue the program!
