The News

Hive had some coverage on Cryptonews this week, although they do say it is a 'press release'. I gather a couple of members of the community wrote it. It sums up the platform quite well and could perhaps be used as a basis for the Hive Wikipedia page that is still in draft form. That needs a lot more details with links to good articles as references. Hive is hard to search for, but having a page there may give the platform more prominence.

It may seem retro, but there is a Hive channel on the Libera IRC server. If you like it 'old school', then join us there.

I keep an eye on general web stats for Hive sites. Hive.blog is the biggest on the blogging side according to Hypestat, but 29000th on the web is not great.

What are you here for?

Why are you on Hive? I get that money is the big attraction for many, but most are not making much. It is also a social platform and we know what an attraction that can be as billions use other platforms for no rewards. The fun can be a combination of the content available and the interaction with others. Hive is lacking big name content creators, but we have lots to entertain and we get to reward it. You should encourage the things you want to see more of as news will spread in the creative communities.

I do not think it has to be a matter of fun OR profit. It can be some combination of the two. You also cannot directly relate time spent creating content to the profits gained as there may be other benefits such as useful feedback and good discussions. Depending on where you live the rewards may pay for a beer or feed your family. I spend a lot of time on Hive, but I enjoy being part of the community. I just keep on powering up so I can give better rewards, but I will cash some out when the time is right.

Some people will play the various games for what profit they can make, but for me they have to be fun. I tend to plough any winnings back into buying cards or other items. The game creators have to find the right balance so that it is not purely about money. If they get greedy then players will go elsewhere.

The followings

More musicians this week.

  • @soundlegion is a long-time prolific creator of quality music that has been shared with us here. She must have hundreds of songs on the blockchain now.
  • @musicuniversity is very involved with the Rising Star game and has a new song available as an NFT there tomorrow.
  • I saw @davidbolu34 having fun playing some Stevie Wonder on bass.
  • On the art front @paolobeneforti has been posting some cool pictures lately.

The end

I will skip the doghouse segment this week, but there is always abuse to be dealt with. Join the Hive DR Discord if you want to help out. We have a Hive hardfork due at the end of this month that may alter the voting dymanics a little. If it encourages more real curation then it could be beneficial. I vote for what I like rather than trying to make maximum rewards anyway.

Have a great weekend and Hive five!
