On Wednesday, July 25, 2023, I had a delightful fun night not only with my family but also with my friends. Yes, it is Fiesta Day of St. Santiago here in Compostela, Cebu! It is a religious feast by Roman Catholics in which they honor the saint in a particular place. This is one of the things that Filipinos are extremely passionate about in order to preserve their culture.
During this time, we are able to visit the chapel and honor the patron saints in thanksgiving for the blessings they showered upon the people and the land. Every fiesta, some of our neighbors or close companions will invite us to their home since they have prepared meals for the fiesta. They encouraged you to bring your family because food has the power to bring people together. And, sure, we went to see one of our father's friends and had a great time with them.
You are able to go to as many houses as you want, depending upon how many people invited you. So, after that, I went to my best friend's house alongside my older sister to show them a visit. I was quite excited to see them as it was already our school break and I wasn't able to meet them every day in order to have a good time.
So, with my older sister and friends already gathered, we made the most of the night! We went to the carnival rides to make our night more memorable, unfortunately it rained, which prevented us from enjoying carnival rides as that would put us in risk only. But that did not strain our bond; we went into a small cafe and rather stayed there. We were expecting to be dissatisfied but I never anticipated to see my friends burst out laughing as they felt my sister was really hilarious and entertaining. At first, I was concerned that someone had gotten out of place. However, I was mistaken; she instead saved the day! Through that, our relationship and connections have become stronger.
This makes me extremely grateful to be able to celebrate fiestas again, because during the pandemic, July 25 was quite different, gloomy, and dull. But now? Everything has changed, from sadness to delight, and from dull to bright and exciting.
