Some people call them TAGS
Some people call them KEYWORDS
A few people call them #HASHTAGS
PeakD calls them TOPICS
Because they represenent the topics found in each post.
A writer of a post can give a bunch of words that describe their post. Aka topics found in their post.
When you are writing a post you can add topics here. You must add at least one.
You can add more than 5 topics (words) but the system that collects posts to input into topic pages presently only looks at the first 5 topics
The first 5 topics are used to add the post to TOPIC PAGES
Then all posts created by everyone using an interface to Hive has their posts added to these pages.
There are several ways to sort the content in there... the most common algorithms only look at the past 7 days.
Here are some examples of topic pages
/trending/photography
/created/hive
/created/utah
SIDE-NOTE: Topic pages can be sorted in several different ways.
You may notice that the URL has "trending" and "created" those are the names of 2 sorting methods.
Trending is the name of a sorting algorithm designed years ago by a company called Steemit inc. it's objective is to show top rewarded posts for that topic with more emphasis on recently highly rewarded posts
Here is an example of a topic page... we'll break down some of the tools to navigate the page.
- A - You can favorite a topic to find it quicker in the future.
- B - The name of the topic
- C - View style of the page. This example page is being viewed in GRID STYLE
- D - The sorting method for this page. This page is being viewed with the "trending" algorithm. aka "reward"
METHOD 1 - Click on topics listed at the end of a post
METHOD 2 - Add favorites on this page: https://peakd.com/explore/trending
METHOD 3 - Click on any word in any post that begins with a hashtag "#"
#science #splinterlands #photofeed #landscapephotography
METHOD 4 - Change the URL where ut says "topicword"
These different URLs represent different ways for the content to be sorted
/trending/topicword
/created/topicword
Also the lesser known sorting algorithm called "hot"
/hot/topicword
METHOD 5 - Do a search for topics
Note that only the most popular topics are options for search.
