It has become a common activity for jobless set of people to want to scam people of their hard earned money. However, people are becoming smart about the way they handle their transactions online this is why there are various advertisement and awareness by various financial institutions online that helps to educate people about what to do and what not to do concerning the protection of their properties and monies online.
Recently, my dad happened to be a victim of online scammers because even until now we do not know how they did it but I believe they got his ATM card number and use it for transactions on tiktok. What was so painful is the fact that his pension payment was used by a fraudster to pay for tiktok gift cards. This is not far fetched because that person would never amount to anything good in this life for using an elderly persons hard work and had earned money for such frivolities.
Back to the topic of the prompt which states that we should give guidance on how we protect ourselves from online scammers. There are different strategies in place that can help you to not be a victim of these people because as the day goes by in our contemporary world you are getting smarter and exploring different means that people might not catch on quick to exploit people.
One of such ways that you can protect your properties online is to never share your passwords to any of your social media or financial platforms to anybody. Especially in the case of financial platforms it is advised that you should not share passwords ATM pins oTP or bank details to anyone online as no bank official would ever ask you for such details.
Again it is also advised that you should avoid clicking just any links that are sent to you either by SMS on social media applications or through your WhatsApp application. This is so because when you click suspicious links it's allows scammers to gain access to your personal online activities. Ensure to use strong passwords that cannot be detected by anybody not even the causing close to you. Use passwords and change them regularly and avoid using birthday dates password that are easily noticed by people.
In all that you do be careful not to send money to strangers you meet online because they can be scammers who are just using words to play on your intelligence. Also report suspicious accounts whenever you notice something fishy is going on.
