Indoor cats live longer, because they are less likely to get certain diseases, get hit by a car, get taken by a coyote or other predator, die from exposure in bad weather, or get trapped somewhere. Of the four cats I've had, Butterscotch lived to 17, Deidre to 15, Maggie to 18, and now Yuan is still going at 15. 😺💚
