Serious leaks on the International space station.

Serious leaks on the International space station.

It seems to me that the international space station is not going to reach 2030, which is when it was wanted or planned for it to be deorbited and destroyed over the South Pacific.

On Thursday, September 26, NASA confirmed a new failure in the space station and it is a high-risk problem with serious consequences. This failure was made known through a report where experts confirmed that NASA managers responsible for operating the space station were seriously concerned about a part of the station, specifically a Russian section.

It would be a tunnel that connects a larger module to a docking port, the problem is that that tunnel has a leak, but there is another bigger problem because Russian and American officials know that this module has been leaking since September 2019 like this That this section is good to close or close and there is another additional problem and that is that they do not know where it is, they have not yet located it, that is why the problem is so serious.

NASA in that report said that in February of this year 2024 it had identified an increase in the leak rate, that is, there was an old leak already, plus other previous ones and in February they identified that the gas that was lost through that leak had increased, that is, the crack or hole had increased and in April that rate continued to increase, the most worrying thing is that despite years of investigation neither Russian nor American officials have managed to identify the cause of the leak. Where is it.

For a moment the plan to avoid risks is to keep closed the hatch of this module that leads to the tunnel that has the problems, over time if the leak worsens even more it could be necessary to close that hatch permanently and that is bad news because it would reduce the number of Russian docking ports on the space station, which would go from four to three. We must remember that the American and Russian space agencies have an agreement after many conflicts and many clashes, because with the issue of the Russian invasion In Ukraine they also wanted to break all kinds of relations, but in the end the practical prevailed, it was imposed that well there are some experiments underway and there is some work underway and that could not be stopped.

And the international space station has a good part that is owned or manufactured in Russia, so right now Russia cannot be separated so easily from the rest of the United States, Japan, ESA, etc., it would be very complicated, which is why they reached an agreement to continue flying on the station until 2028, continue operating on it, although NASA would like to extend the operations of the space station until 2030, for a moment NASA remember that SpaceX has contracted the construction of a ship, an execution ship, an Executioner ship, a ship that would be a version of the dragon ship but more powerful, with more power to be able to push the station to the international space station to the place where it must be deorbited and would end up being destroyed by entering the Earth's atmosphere.
