One of the difficulties you are likely to experience when visiting large shopping malls is deciding what to buy. You will most likely notice different brands of the same things in such stores, and unless you are very familiar with a certain brand, deciding which one to buy will be difficult. You can save yourself the hassle if you maintain a list of things you want to buy with you.
If you've realised it, shopping at big stores can be very tempting. While searching for your favourite things, you are sure to come across some that you would like to test or use, particularly if it is a new brand. Even if you have a shopping list with you, you may be enticed to buy more than you intended. Stocking stores with more or different brands of merchandise is all part of a marketing strategy to get you to buy something instead of walking away with your money.
The main reason I went to Melcom, my usual shopping destination, was to pick up a certain hair pomade (Air Cream) that I had previously used. I couldn't find any at the store, but I did see a few brands that I was familiar with. Vaseline and Sportin Waves were the two pomades, both of which are good products. I didn't need any anyway, but the elegance of their case enticed me to touch, and because I required hair pomade, I couldn't help but choose the sportin waves - Ā¢25 cedis/6.58 Hive. I was tempted to touch and tempted to buy. š
I realised that the layout of most shopping malls, as well as how neatly products are organised, may be a powerful attraction to encourage you to spend time there. The more time you spend walking around, the more products you will come across. Take a look at these lovely layouts from Melcom, which I recently visited.
Another strategy used by retail stores is to introduce discount sales. When they offer you a discount, they will tell you that it will be a great way to save money, but it will also be an opportunity to get you to buy more. Although there is a win-win situation in this example, any discount offer may persuade you to buy more than you require.
So, as you can see, we can all profit, and it all boils down to making the best decision possible whenever you go shopping. You can either gain or lose money depending on your purchasing decisions.
