Harvesting the Blue Dream

It has been 67 days of flowering for these cannabis plants. The buds have grown much since my last post, fattening and ripening up. I have been checking the buds with the microscope and it is now time to harvest. With the first signs of amber crystals forming this sativa dominant strain is ready to be chopped. The smell that comes off of the buds is different than the indica dominant hybrids I am used to working with. I guess its a sign the plant is a little different than others.

Blue Dream is a Mediterranean strain, its bud formations were new to me, and it was quite cool to see the different formations in the buds from what I am used to.

Turning off the light for the last time its a significant moment. It has been going on and off for the last two months.. But now its being shut down, until the next flowering cycle. I get a shot before the high pressure sodium light cools down, seeing its glow from within.

With many colas I will have my trimming work ahead. Luckily I have a new tool to make trimming easier.

The netting was also new to me, so it was nice trying out new ways of growing.

And growing a sativa dominant strain was fun too, though I learned they stretch more and may need to consider that on my next grow so they do not get too tall in the tents.

The orange hairs have formed throughout all the buds. Even more so since my last post around two weeks ago.

Some of the buds have gotten so resinous they are leaning over. But the netting helped to support them and I was thankful for that.

Amazing how much they stretched. I remember when they were not even poking through the first net, let alone towering past the second net.

I think I will use this technique again. As for the support it was great just for that reason.

Some close ups of the buds. We can see the sugar leaves there.

I will keep the trimmings and make cannabutter from them. So everything is used here.

Cutting the plants is the first step to harvest, its the hardest to do. Cutting the plants life source from its roots, but soon I will transform these plants into a new thing.. many many buds.

The pots will be reused, I just need to yank out the old roots.

Getting the plants free from the netting was more of a pain that I thought it would be.. Maybe next time I need to raise the netting a lot to get them out easier. But in the end I got them out and started cutting off buds to start trimming.

But this time we are using a machine to trim the buds. Its called a bowl trimmer. Its made by Vivosun.

I just place the untrimmed buds in the bowl and then put the top on and spin the wheel 15 times in each direction.

The results came out good, a bright green wet bud.

Honestly am not sure how they turned out, I will judge them once they have dried in about 2 weeks.

Opening up the bowl trimmer we can see all the cuttings, there is a lot!

Going to recarb the trim and put it through the Magic butter machine.

Now its time to dry them, honestly I was not prepared for wet drying. And just had to figure out a way to dry hundreds of buds.

Though I pulled a bunch of trays and things to dry the buds on. But next time I will be prepared with proper drying baskets.

Using both tents to dry, I have fans going in the one with less buds. And dehumidifiers going in the more filled tent. This wet trimming has made me, and my whole house smell like cannabis..lol I had to take a shower in the night as I realized I still smelled like wet trimmed cannabis upon awakening.. lol All and all its a good experience, just funny the things I deal with now as a cannabis grower.

So whats next?

I let the buds dry for around a week or so and then its time to cure them in jars.

Soon I will be starting my next grow. Going through my seeds I have decided to grow Train Wreck. I was going to do 10th Planet x Lilac Diesel, but I only have one seed. So having a bunch of Train Wreck I figured its a good idea to grow all the same again for the SCROG netting technique. Being a sativa as well, it should be nice and green for the summer grows. And then this winter I can grow something that can go purple instead.

EDIT: I was mistaken on my next grow, actually it will be sour diesel.. I cannot find those train wreck seeds I thought I had.
