Let's talk music and play ( day 23 Contest ) end of this week

Following Oasis' "Wonderwall" and the Eagles' "Hotel California" in the "Everybody's Listening Tired" category is "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by Richard Ashcroft's defunct band The Verve. A song with a bitter story, like its name. In case you didn't know, Ashcroft and company were sued by the Rolling Stones. On June 16, 1997, The Verve released "Bitter Sweet Symphony", a song that would later be included on the album Urban Hymns. With the familiar string rhythm we all know, the music placed The Verve on several US and UK charts, but despite their fame, they never received a single penny for their music.

Before forming, Ashcroft was signed to The Rolling Stones and their label and used the pentatonic pattern used by Mick Jagger on "The Last Time" from the band's Out of Our Heads album. This will replace a 50/50 song draw for each band.

But in between was a mix produced by the Rolling Stones' former manager, Andrew Lough Oldham, who then sold it to the band's new manager, Allen Keelin. Realizing the song's impact, Klein decided to file a lawsuit against The Verve in 1998, alleging that Richard Ashcroft had breached his contract by using more musical elements than he had agreed to. They demanded 100% of the profits generated by this title.

Fortunately for Ashcroft, that all changed in 2019. After several conversations with The Verve via posts on their Twitter accounts, the matter was resolved and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards agreed to waive their share of the royalties. For Ricardo's sake.
