¿Modern Narcissuses?

Narcissus in modern times no longer looks at his reflection in a lake. The lake has become a screen. A disfigured and illusory reality. A filtered image with beautiful colors and shadows and lights. But that very little expresses the less colorful, but real, reality.

In this reflection, Narcissus gets lost, falls into the lake and drowns in the imaginary. Narcissus now experiences the world through images that are projected on a screen or within his own head. He has died the real me of him. It is now a fantasized reality. Reality through the image. And he sees himself through retouched photographs that show the best, but most illusory version of himself.

The feedback of what is "socialized" or what is posted, usually comes from public comments and the quantitative indicators of the reaction caused by the content that has been published. In this way, the “likes”, the "hearts", the "upvotes" or its equivalent on other social networks, mainly becomes a mere indicator of the impact based on the number of people who have reacted to the content.

Basically, an indicator of subjective “popularity” or a biased evaluation of content lacking quality and uniqueness. As a simple generic and numerical signifier. All content is practically scored the same. Giving rise to a defined and evaluated imaginary. Sanctioned, we could say, by an arbitrary symbolic value. An image or a post will not be valuable by itself, but only by the level of reaction with which that image or essay is sanctioned.

¿But who are the true sanctioners?
