The Odeon of Herodes Atticus, or Herodium as we call it in Greece, is, in my hamble opinion, the most beautiful ancient theater in Greece. There are other great theaters in Greece too, where you can watch a play, a performance or listen to music, but this one is our Star.

It is not as big as Epidaurus or the ancient Theater of Dodoni, nonetheless, as it is situated just underneath the Acropolis, you can have an experience worth your time and money.

The stage with the unique Arches give it an amazing theatricality.

This Theater hosts some of the most amazing plays worldwide and it is a considered a recognition for an artist to perform here.

Some artists are eager to perform on this stage – paying respect to the place.

The opera I watched was written by the composer Mikis Theodorakis containing - as main theme - the Syrtaki dance and is based on the life of Alexis Zorbas. The life of this person was narrated by the great Greek writer Nikos Kazatzakis as he happened to meet Zorbas in real life and make his story known to the world via the movie Zorba the Greek, directed by Michalis Kakogiannis and performed by Antony Quinn.
