Long exposure photography and light painting are some of my favorite styles to experiment with and one thing that I have seen but done very little is using fire in them.
On this night we went to an old abandoned marine supply building to practice. We picked this location because it is nice and tucked away, meaning we wouldn't have to worry about people passing by and seeing us. Also because the gravel on the ground and it had just rained, so any overgrowth would be wet. Making the risk of starting any unwanted fires a lot smaller (whenever doing steel wool or fire photos, always have water or a way to extinguish the flames).
The tools I used were very basic. I brought lighter fluid and some old T-shirts and while at the location we found a 4 foot long 2x4 piece of wood. I tore a piece of a T-shirt off and tied it t the end of the 2x4 and poured a small amount of the lighter fluid on it. Lit it and started shooting.
Not my best work, but incredible practice! And I am loving the look, so there will be a lot more practice in the future and eventually can do some planned shoots with it! IF you have any ideas of what could be done with fire, please let me know!
