Ermosa Karst conservation area is located in Stoney Creek Ont. and was created in 2006, when a large karst and cave system was discovered in the area. In fact it is considered to be the best example of karst topography found in Ontario.
There have been 5 cave systems found that humans can enter, so far with the longest of those spanning 335 meters.
I am not an experienced cave explorer, actually it is something that I have never done and want to try. So I spent this afternoon exploring the land and trying to find the cave entrances.
A "sink" where a creek feeds into the caves.
Then this, that looks like a hole but is not. It is a spot that part of the cave collapsed creating an indent in the ground.
Then I finally found an entrance into a cave! I climbed inside to check it out and found two tunnels.
With only 1 of the 5 caves found, I had to call it a day, the sun was starting to set. I was hoping to find a lot more but this was a great first look! I cannot wait for round 2!
