Today I want to share some of my commercial work for a magazine that I did before the pandemic. This photoshoot was for a promotional purpose for Dr Hana Rose in our local magazine here called the Breeze magazine.
This photoshoot was for the magazine cover and for her introduction profile in the magazine.
Everyone, this is Dr Hana Rose. She is a beautician, specialize in aesthetic and skin problem.
She was introduced by a friend from the magazine company. I was chosen as the official photographer for the magazine. At first some of the photoshoot was done in her aesthetic clinic. After that we went to the hotel for the magazine cover photoshoot.
I never went to the hotel and I did not know any of its interior and lighting conditions. I went there with my single strobe and one 90cm octabox.
After reaching the hotel area for a photoshoot, as I expected it was totally in a low light environment. All the small light was only light on a specific area and it was very dim.
I had to choose which place to take the shoot. Luckily I did bring my power cord extension. The power outlet was very far and I had some area for the shoot.

Hari ini saya ingin berkongsi beberapa karya komersial saya untuk majalah yang saya lakukan sebelum wabak. Penggambaran ini adalah untuk tujuan promosi untuk Dr Hana Rose dalam majalah tempatan kami di sini yang dipanggil majalah Breeze.
Penggambaran ini adalah untuk muka depan majalah dan untuk profil pengenalannya dalam majalah.
Semua orang, ini Dr Hana Rose. Dia seorang pakar kecantikan, pakar dalam masalah estetik dan kulit.
Dia diperkenalkan oleh rakan dari syarikat majalah itu. Saya telah dipilih sebagai jurugambar rasmi untuk majalah tersebut. Pada mulanya beberapa sesi pemotretan dilakukan di klinik estetiknya. Selepas itu kami ke hotel untuk photoshoot muka depan majalah.
Saya tidak pernah pergi ke hotel dan saya tidak tahu apa-apa keadaan dalaman dan pencahayaannya. Saya pergi ke sana dengan strob tunggal saya dan satu kotak okta 90cm.
Selepas sampai ke kawasan hotel untuk sesi pemotretan, seperti yang saya jangkakan ia benar-benar dalam persekitaran yang kurang cahaya. Semua cahaya kecil hanya terang pada kawasan tertentu dan ia sangat malap.
Saya terpaksa memilih tempat untuk mengambil gambar. Nasib baik saya membawa sambungan kabel kuasa saya. Alur keluar kuasa adalah sangat jauh dan saya mempunyai beberapa kawasan untuk penggambaran.

This shoot was taken in the middle of the hotel hallway on a big marble table.
Penggambaran ini diambil di tengah-tengah lorong hotel di atas meja marmar yang besar.

This stair was the only place that has a nice lighting and color on its wall. All other area of the hotel was cluttered with the hotel things.
I had to do some ice breaking before the actual shoot, luckily she is really talented when doing a pose for photoshoot.
The yellow dress was designed by one of our local designer here at Kota Kinabalu. The dress was specially made for her size. I do not remember how long did the designer took for making the dress but it was really beautiful with the details on the chest to the shoulder.
Tangga ini adalah satu-satunya tempat yang mempunyai pencahayaan dan warna yang bagus pada dindingnya. Semua kawasan hotel yang lain berselerak dengan barang-barang hotel.
Saya terpaksa melakukan ice breaking sebelum penggambaran sebenar, nasib baik dia memang berbakat apabila berposing untuk pemotretan.
Gaun kuning itu direka oleh salah seorang pereka tempatan kami di Kota Kinabalu. Gaun itu dibuat khas untuk saiznya. Saya tidak ingat berapa lama pereka mengambil masa untuk membuat gaun itu tetapi ia benar-benar cantik dengan perincian di bahagian dada hingga ke bahu.

I made some minor adjustment on her pose and the lighting for this shoot. Making her body looked leaner.
Saya membuat sedikit pelarasan pada posenya dan pencahayaan untuk penggambaran ini. Menjadikan badannya kelihatan lebih kurus.

This is one of my favorite pose. Looking into the camera with slightly smiling. She really had a talent for a model in my opinion.
Ini adalah salah satu pose kegemaran saya. Memandang ke dalam kamera dengan sedikit tersenyum. Dia benar-benar mempunyai bakat untuk model pada pendapat saya.

To be honest this photoshoot was a little bit challenging for me. She was standing on the stairs and my lighting was on the floor below. The tripod only can reached around two meters high. and it was not really enough to get the lighting setup that I want. I had to adjust the lighting and end up to put direct lighting to her. Luckily I had the octabox, the shadow was slightly soften by it. It turns out good but not what I had plan earlier.
The stair location, I will remember this type of photography, next time I will prepare a higher tripod for my lightings.
Sejujurnya photoshoot kali ini agak mencabar bagi saya. Dia berdiri di atas tangga dan lampu saya berada di lantai bawah. Tripod hanya boleh mencapai ketinggian sekitar dua meter. dan ia sebenarnya tidak mencukupi untuk mendapatkan persediaan pencahayaan yang saya inginkan. Saya terpaksa menyesuaikan pencahayaan dan akhirnya meletakkan pencahayaan terus kepadanya. Nasib baik saya mempunyai octabox, bayangnya sedikit lembut olehnya. Ia ternyata baik tetapi tidak seperti yang saya rancangkan sebelum ini.
Lokasi tangga, saya akan ingat fotografi jenis ini, lain kali saya akan menyediakan tripod yang lebih tinggi untuk pencahayaan saya.

This is the marble table that I mentioned earlier. I is huge. I suggested that Dr Hana go on the table for a pose. At first I thought she will be against it, but luckily she agreed to do the pose.
Inilah meja marmar yang saya sebutkan tadi. Saya besar. Saya mencadangkan supaya Dr Hana pergi ke atas meja untuk bergambar. Pada mulanya saya fikir dia akan menentangnya, tetapi nasib baik dia bersetuju untuk melakukan pose itu.

At first to setup the lighting for this shoot was very challenging. The marble table reflected more light than I imagine. I had to adjust the lighting position and power output for several time. In the end this was the best result that I get from many of the lighting setup.
Pada mulanya untuk setup pencahayaan untuk penggambaran ini adalah sangat mencabar. Meja marmar memantulkan lebih banyak cahaya daripada yang saya bayangkan. Saya terpaksa melaraskan kedudukan pencahayaan dan output kuasa untuk beberapa kali. Akhirnya ini adalah hasil terbaik yang saya dapat daripada banyak persediaan pencahayaan.

The marble table actually helped me a little during the photoshoot session. The light bounced from the marble table had slightly illuminate Dr Hana from the left side of the photos. The shadow was not that dark and it really helped me to bring out the details during post processing.
Meja marble sebenarnya membantu saya sedikit semasa sesi photoshoot. Cahaya yang melantun dari meja marmar telah menerangi sedikit Dr Hana dari sebelah kiri gambar. Bayang-bayang itu tidak begitu gelap dan ia sangat membantu saya mengeluarkan butiran semasa pemprosesan pos.

This last photo I tried for portrait position. I turns out good. Her expression and the lighting is just perfect. The lighting really had landed on her face perfectly plus all the details on her dress was still visible.

Foto terakhir ini saya cuba untuk kedudukan potret. Saya ternyata baik. Ekspresi dan pencahayaannya sempurna. Pencahayaan benar-benar mendarat di wajahnya dengan sempurna ditambah semua butiran pada gaunnya masih kelihatan.

Dari kiri pembantu mereka (maaf saya lupa namanya T_T), kemudian kedua dari kiri berbaju putih ialah Jason, pereka pakaian, ketiga dari kiri berbaju hitam ialah Ojoe, jurusolek.
