Little Kennebago Lake, Maine

Mountain lake

Little Kennebago Lake near Rangeley, Maine.

Pano

A beautiful remote lake access by a gravel logging road. The cabin we stayed in was about 10 miles off the main road. According to the state of Maine, the lake is 190 acres and up to 56 feet deep. The lake is not stocked but has a good population of coldwater fish especially brook trout. The lake is fly fishing only and State Heritage Fish Water.

Bright

We were on the shallow end of the lake, hoping to see a moose but no luck. We did see otters, fox, loons, bald eagles, lots of waterfowl. We heard coyotes and saw moose signs (tracks and scat) as well as bear scat.

Overcast lake

We walked around the perimeter of the lake which was about 8 miles and required fording a shallow stream 🙂

Fog on mountains

The good part of the walk was wild raspberries were quite common. We ate lots and even picked enough to take some back to the cabin for later. It made the walk seem a little shorter 😊
