Chronicles from the heart of Havana.

Havana, if my eyes abandoned you, if life banished me to a corner of the earth, I swear I would die of love and desire to walk your streets, your neighborhoods and your places!... This is the lyrics of a song by Gerardo Alfonso, Cuban singer who exalts the beauty of Havana. The song has been going around in my head for days, the thing is that on Saturday I went to walk the streets of Havana, looking for those hidden stories that make it so special.

Early in the morning I grabbed my backpack, my camera, the water and I got into action. If there is one thing that is for sure is that Havana always surprises you, every picture is just around the corner, waiting for you. From the banana peddler to the man who so humbly plays the piano behind a fence.

So many old cars with bright colors trying to attract tourists make them an incomparable target for photos, I think it is one of the great attractions, at least from the visual point of view, because they are not cheap to be transported in them. Anyway, they didn’t charge me anything for taking a picture of them, so I took advantage of it.

And what can I say about the Havana characters that are almost heritage of the city, this is the case of the gentleman, I remember seeing him a few years ago singing in the street and I was amazed to see him again this time, much quieter, but always with that joy that characterizes him, I only missed one person who is always laughing, but I mean it literally, I owe him for the next adventure.

Every corner of Havana is unique, every window, every door lock, the music that accompanies the comparsa and makes your bones move, the loud cries of the half-naked lady on the balcony, the stray cats, in short, everything is a delight for the eyes and the heart.

I can’t complain, even though my passion is nature photography. I always find in this blessed city the inspiration that takes me out of my comfort zone and makes me love every day more this profession of photographer.
I invite you to walk around Havana, and like an explorer look for these hidden stories that seek to be told.

All photographs are my own and taken with a Nikon D200 camera and a Tamron 70-300mm lens.
