Auf dem Oybin/ On the Oybin

In diesem Jahr hatten wir wieder die Möglichkeit im Cölestinerkloster auf dem Oybin zu photographieren. Diesmal entschied ich mich einen lesenden Mönch darzustellen. Zugute kamen mit die schon vorhandenen Kerzen, die an angenehmes weiches Licht gaben.

This year we again had the opportunity to photograph in the Cölestine monastery on the Oybin. This time I decided to portray a monk reading. I benefited from the candles that were already there, which gave a pleasant soft light.

Vorbereitung zum Bild

Ich arbeitete also mit dem schon vorhandenem Kerzenlicht, den Mönch leuchtete ich mit dem schwarzen Glasfaserpuschel ein. Dieser erweckt meiner Meinung nach im Bild den Eindruck eines Pinsels, so als wäre der Mönch ins Bild gemalt. Den Raum leuchtete ich mit einer Taschenlampe aus.

So I worked with the existing candlelight and lit the monk with the black fiberglass brush. In my opinion, this gives the impression of a brush in the picture, as if the monk had been painted into the picture. I illuminated the room with a flashlight.

Mit diesem Bild setze ich meine Bildgeschichte von der Nonne und dem Mönch fort. Das letzte Bild dort zeigt den Tod der Nonne. Jetzt lasse ich sie wieder auferstehen. Diese Technik habe ich schon ein anderes Mal verwendet, aber dazu später mehr.

With this picture I continue my picture story of the nun and the monk. The last picture there shows the death of the nun. Now I am resurrecting her. I have already used this technique on another occasion, but more on that later.

Wiederauferstehung/ resurrection Model: Marlene

Ich ließ mein Model so gut es ging bequem auf dem Altar Platz nehmen. Dann leuchtete ich sie vier mal ins Bild, wobei ich die Kamera zwischen den Schritten abdeckte. So entstand der Eindruck der stufenweisen Aufrichtung der Nonne. Die Wände leuchtete ich mit der Taschenlampe aus.

I made my model sit comfortably on the altar as best I could. Then I lit her four times in the picture, covering the camera between the steps. This created the impression of the nun gradually standing upright. I illuminated the walls with the flashlight.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
