ROTATE THE CITY LIGHTS
It's becoming a habit. For the third Friday in a row, I was out and about at night in Berlin with the camera and the rotation tool. This time I was at the S-Bahn station Berlin Karlshorst. Even at night there is a lot of activity there, several tram lines, two bus lines, the S-Bahn and many cars cross the scene. And people walking around in front of the camera were also out and about.
So langsam wird das zur Gewohnheit. Schon den dritten Freitag in Folge war ich nachts mit der Kamera und dem Rotation Tool im nächtlichen Berlin unterwegs. Dieses Mal war ich am S-Bahnhof Berlin Karlshorst unterwegs. Auch nachts ist da ziemlich viel Betrieb, mehrere Straßenbahnlinien, zwei Buslinien, die S-Bahn und viele Autos kreuzen die Szene. Und Menschen, die vor der Kamera rumlaufen waren auch unterwegs.

The entire area is brightly lit by many different light sources. I was forced to set both ISO and aperture to the lowest possible value. Even with these settings, I had to work quickly to keep the lights from burning out. Next time I'll take an ND filter with me.
Der gesamte Bereich ist von vielen verschiedenen Lichtquellen hell erleuchtet. Ich war gezwungen sowohl ISO als auch Blende auf den kleinstmöglichen Wert zu stellen. Selbst mit diesen Einstellungen musste ich schnell arbeiten damit die Lichter nicht ausbrennen. Das nächste Mal nehme ich einen ND-Filter mit.

The exposure time for this shot is only so long because I wanted to have moving vehicles in the picture at every step of the rotation. Most of the time the lens was covered and only uncovered for 2 seconds at each step when a tram or bus was passing through the scene.
Die Belichtungszeit bei dieser Aufnahme ist nur deshalb so lang weil ich bei jedem Schritt der Rotation fahrende Fahrzeuge im Bild haben wollte. Die meiste Zeit war das Objektiv abgedeckt und nur für jeweils 2 Sekunden bei jedem Schritt aufgedeckt wenn gerade eine Straßenbahn oder der Omnibus durch die Szene gefahren ist.

These two pictures were created in the same way, only the number of steps is different. In the picture with the 12 30° steps, I did not wait for a vehicle to pass through the picture at each step. I would probably still be standing there waiting.
Diese beiden Bilder sind auf die gleiche Art entstanden, nur die Anzahl der Steps ist anders. Beim Bild mit den 12 30° Schritten habe ich nicht bei jedem Schritt gewartet bis ein Fahrzeug durch das Bild fährt. Da würde ich wahrscheinlich immer noch dort stehen und warten.

Afterwards, I changed my location and thus also the image section. This and the following pictures show rotations from this location with more bright colours through the various illuminated advertising signs of the shops, restaurant, bank, etc.
Im Anschluß habe ich meinen Standort und somit auch den Bildauschnitt verändert. Dieses und die folgenden Bilder zeigen Rotationen von diesem Standort mit mehr bunten Farben durch die verschiedenen beleuchteten Werbschilder der Geschäfte, Restaurant, Bank usw..

The last picture shows the scene that served me for the rotations. Nothing special, really. You can find such nocturnal scenes in every larger city. It doesn't always have to be the fancy, elaborately lit building. Through creativity in the choice of the appropriate image detail and the movements then executed with the camera, impressive images can be created almost anywhere.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to continue the series next Friday. I have an appointment with some friends for "real" light painting. But I will definitely continue the series afterwards.
Das letzte Bild zeigt die Szene, welche mir für die Rotationen gedient hat. Eigentlich nichts besonderes. Solche nächtlichen Szenen findet man in jeder größeren Stadt. Es muss nicht immer das ausgefallene, aufwändig beleuchtete Gebäude sein. Durch Kreativität bei der Wahl des passenden Bildausschnitts und der dann ausgeführten Bewegungen mit der Kamera lassen sich fast überall eindrucksvolle Bilder erstellen.
Am nächsten Freitag kann ich die Serie leider nicht fortsetzen. Da bin ich mit ein paar Freunden zum "richtigen" Light Painting verabredet. Aber danach setze ich die Serie bestimmt fort.
