1000 Mirrors - Light Painting Photography on HIVE

Some time ago I built a Light Painting Tool out of 1000 small mirrors. To be honest, I don't even know if there are 1000 of them. There are probably only 960 or so. For the first version I took a Pringles roll and glued the little mirrors to it. This version was not very durable, after a short time more and more mirrors came off. These little mirrors stuck to the camera, almost all the lenses and the photo backpack. So I printed a more stable version on the 3D printer. In the meantime, 2 rows of mirrors have also come loose from this one. I am not sure whether I will repair the tool or build something completely new.

Vor einiger Zeit habe ich ein Light Painting Tool aus 1000 kleinen Spiegeln gebaut. Um ehrlich zu sein weiß ich gar nicht, ob es 1000 Stück sind. Wahrscheinlich sind es nur 960, oder so. Für die erste Version hatte ich eine Pringles Rolle genommen und in diese die kleinen Spiegel geklebt. Diese Variante war nicht sehr langlebig, nach kurzer Zeit haben sich immer mehr Spiegel gelöst. An der Kamera, fast allen Objektiven und dem Fotorucksack klebten dann diese kleinen Spiegel. Also habe ich eine stabilere Variante auf dem 3D Drucker gedruckt. Auch aus dieser haben sich mittlerweile 2 Reihen der Spiegel gelöst. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob ich das Tool repariere oder etwas komplett Neues baue.

I then attach this tool in front of the lens with a Magic Arm. Either I simply illuminate an object like the leaf or I "multiply" the bokeh of the Helios 44/2. Combinations with other techniques are also conceivable, of course. When I have replaced the missing mirrors or built something new, I will certainly also use the tool for portraits. Depending on the focal length and the distance between the mirrors and the lens, the effect will change. I have messed up some pictures because I accidentally shined the light into the tool from the side. Everything was immediately burnt out.

Diese Tool befestige ich dann mit einem Magic Arm vor dem Objektiv. Entweder ich beleuchte dann einfach ein Objekt wie das Blatt oder "vervielfache" das Bokeh des Helios 44/2. Auch Kombinationen mit anderen Techniken sind natürlich denkbar. Wenn ich die fehlenden Spiegel ersetzt habe oder etwas Neues gebaut habe werde ich das Tool sicher auch für Portraits benutzen. Abhängig von der Brennweite und dem Abstand der Spiegel zum Objektive verändert sich der Effekt. Ich habe einige Bilder versaut weil ich versehentlich seitlich in das Tool geleuchtet habe. Das war dann sofort alles ausgebrannt.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
