Walking in the Historic town of Hoorn

Hello you all,
Are you going to do some fun things this weekend?

I want to welcome you in this second part of the historical walk in the city of Hoorn in the Netherlands. This historic town is located in the province of Noord-Holland.

I am starting with this little brass plaque in the pavement in front of this house. It reads, here lived Alexander Polak. He was born in 1888 and was deported to from concentration camp Westerbork in 1942 and he was murdered on 12 February 1943 in Auschwitz. You can find memorials like this all over the country.

This is that little street. typical Dutch right?

A lot of these houses are very old but also many are restored or completely rebuild. The rebuild houses are build in the old style of the city. Some times it looks a little to new in my opinion but it still fits in the looks of the whole street.

This is the peoples beer house. And a pint of beer used to be 5 cents here. Its still painted on the wall of the cafe.

We love green and water in the Netherlands. This canal has also the purpose of draining away the rain that falls in the city. it leads it away to the harbor at the edge of the town.

And the green area's are also there so that most of the rain is absorbed into the ground.

I made a panorama of the whole canal.

And because of all this canals, we have a lot of bridges in the city's.

On the outside of this building is an old drawing and a very old texts written. It's written in old Dutch and it looks like this:

"en sonder twyefel dit daer synder ook in T midden. dear synder op het lant die godt met mooses bidden tot dat men over wint gelyck het is geschiet waer van men huyden noch een klare teken siet"

Translated it's something like this.

And without doubt this is also in the middle of it. There are on the land those who pray to God with moose until they win, as it happened, of which we still see a clear sign.

If you are done walking around, the city center has a lot of also buildings that are transformed to nice pubs with terraces.
