I have traveled by train between Pleven and Sofia not dozens but hundreds of times. And every time I was impressed by the power of Stara Planina and the magic of the Iskar gorge. But for a long time I did not imagine what an amazing nature lies beyond the railway line in the area of Karlukovo. And that here, in a beautiful cave named Prohodna, better known as God's eyes - one can feel God closer to oneself.
The name God's eyes comes from the two holes in the rock formed by erosion and seepage water. They bear a striking resemblance to human eyes. That's what they do
Passable one of the two naturally lit caves in Bulgaria
In fact, Prohodna is a cave tunnel. It is one of about 280 caves and precipices discovered in the region of Karlukovo. (According to other sources, the number of these entities is about 600)
The length of Prohodna Cave is 262 meters, which makes it the longest cave tunnel in Bulgaria. It is currently dry and accessible to everyone. In the past, however, water filled part of it and turned it into a real rock bridge. Today, one entrance overlooks a karst valley formed in the past by water that passed through the cave and flowed into Iskar.
In the immediate vicinity is the cave Cherdhenitsa. To reach it, you have to go through Prohodna.
