Nënshat is a small village in Albania which is located in an area called Zadrima. It is a rural area where people live mainly thanks to the production of olive oil and wine. In this village there are ancient churches or remains of them... in fact, during communism all religious references were destroyed, above all blown up with dynamite. Now that freedom of worship has returned, some places have been restored. In particular, in Nënshat the ancient church was rebuilt, once a bishopric, and next to it the Carmelite monastery. The reconstruction took place around the remaining ruins of the old church for a suggestive landscape that often made me think of Gondor, the city of kings found in The Lord of the Rings. Nënshat è un piccolo villaggio in Albania che si trova in una zona chiamata Zadrima. È una zona rurale dove si vive principalmente grazie alla produzione di olio di oliva e vino. In questo villaggio si trovano delle chiese antiche o resti di esse... infatti durante il comunismo tutti i riferimenti religiosi sono stati distrutti, soprattutto fatti saltare in
aria con la dinamite. Adesso che è tornata la libertà di culto alcuni luoghi sono stati ripristinati. In particolare a Nënshat è stata ricostruita l'antica chiesa , un tempo sede vescovile, e accanto ad essa il monastero delle carmelitane. La ricostruzione è avvenuta intorno alle rovine rimaste della vecchia chiesa per un paesaggio suggestivo che spesso mi ha fatto pensare a Gondor,la città dei re che si trova ne Il Signore degli anelli.
