The last couple of months have been amazing but totally out of the ordinary. Preparing for a big move, then the moving itself and then all the work that has to be done in order to materialise our vision for the new chapter of our life. Tiring months but filled with the excitement of the new beginning!
The one thing that we have been missing though, is our connection to nature. With all the renovation work that we are doing every day, we have found ourselves bounded in four walls and running from one hardware store to the other. A massive change of routine after 9 years of farm life!
So @traisto and myself, took a day off and went for a walk at a nearby hill. Not the most fascinating scenery I have ever seen but after all, it's spring and every piece of undisturbed land is fascinating at spring, isn't it?
All the flowers have their share of beauty but I do appreciate much more the wild ones. Those that bloom and flourish every year without any human intervention or any care at all. Some people may call them weeds and some others may try to get rid of them with weedkillers, because of a false perception of proper cultivation. But I love them!
I love them for their smell, for their beauty and for keeping the soil alive and protected. I could never call them something else than a blessing!
I was also very pleased to see the wonderful pink flowers of Cistus creticus (pink rock-rose) and a lot of oregano bushes almost ready to bloom. They are two of my favourite herbs and I wouldn't want to live too far away from them!
There are more herbs here that I don't recognise but I quess I'll get to know them, all in good time!
Marcos (our four-legged companion) was also thrilled with our small hike. Now that we live in a town he doesn't have many opportunities to be off the leash and this once he was as free as he used to be every day at the farm. Even though after half an hour of delirious running, he was just seeking the shade of the trees to avoid the heat of the day :)
But apart from our much needed desire to recharge and reconnect a bit with nature, there was a special occasion to celebrate too. @traisto's birthday!
You can see below the birthday girl herself and the flowers she picked to decorate the festive lunch :)
