Hello HIVEs!
In the past few weeks, I wrote about my trip through Santa Catarina in Brazil and there is still a lot to tell about my adventures in Brazil. I called this post "The return to ORB" because I'm not alone in this. Denis Smith ( @theballoflight ) is experiencing a renaissance of the Orb. So that day I packed The Ball of Light tools in my backpack to shoot a few orbs.
In den vergangenen Wochen schrieb ich von meiner Reise durch Santa Catarina in Brasilien und es gibt noch viel von den Abenteuern in Brasilien zu berichten. Ich habe diesen Post "Die Rückkehr zum ORB" genannt, weil ich damit nicht allein stehe. Bei Denis Smith ( @theballoflight ) kommt es zu einer Renaissance des Orb. Also packte ich an diesem Tag die The Ball of Light Tools in meinen Rucksack, um ein paar Orbs zu drehen.

I didn't have to carry my equipment far. Our house was in the immediate vicinity. Very convenient! I had three different balls for the tool with me, so I also tried out the three colours.
Meine Ausrüstung musste ich nicht weit tragen. Unser Haus befand sich in unmittelbarer Nähe. Sehr komfortabel! Drei verschiedene Bälle für das Tool hatte ich mit, also probierte ich auch die drei Farben aus.

Making Of
Turning an orb is actually quite simple. At least in theory. I look for a prominent point on the ground or place a coin or light-coloured stone where I want the orb to appear later in the picture. Then I rotate the tool vertically and move in a circle around the marked point so that the tool always moves vertically exactly over the marked point.
It's not quite that simple. You need a lot of practice. My first attempts usually produced pumpkins or other figures, but no ball. Denis Smith describes very nicely on his website what mistakes you can make and how to avoid them. Here is the link:
After I brought the orb into the picture, I threw some light onto the rocks with a NOCTIGON DM11 from 4 o'clock. The rest was done by the light smog.
Einen Orb zu drehen ist eigentlich ganz simpel. Zumindest in der Theorie. Ich suche einen markanten Punkt am Boden oder lege eine Münze oder hellen Stein dorthin, wo der Orb später im Bild erscheinen soll. Dann Rotiere ich das Tool senkrecht und bewege mich dabei so im Kreis um die markierte Stelle, dass sich das Tool senkrecht immer genau über den markierten Punkt bewegt.
Ganz so einfach ist es dann doch nicht. Man braucht viel Übung. Meine ersten Versuche brachten meist Kürbisse oder andere Figuren, aber keinen Ball hervor. Denis Smith beschreibt auf seiner Webseite sehr schön, welche Fehler man machen kann und wie man sie vermeidet. Hier ist der Link:

Nachdem ich den Orb ins Bild gebracht habe, warf ich etwas Licht mit einer NOCTIGON DM11 von 4 Uhr auf die Felsen. Den Rest erledigte der Lichtsmog.

Grutta do Riozinho
The picture above and the following picture show an orb in a cave. The light painting was created in the Grutta do Riozinho, in Alfredo Wagner, Santa Catarina, Brazil. We found the cave by chance after visiting a chapel nearby.
The cave is located on a ranch owned by Sr Dário. He explained how to get there and pointed out the light switch. That was the most important clue! A light painting was guaranteed. 😊 Sr Dário rents out small holiday homes on his property. You can find him on Instagram under "pousadariozinho".
Das Bild oben und das folgende Bild zeigen einen Orb in einer Höhle. Das Lightpainting entstand in der Grutta do Riozinho, in Alfredo Wagner, Santa Catarina, Brasilien. Die Höhle haben wir zufällig gefunden, nachdem wir eine Kapelle ganz in der Nähe besucht hatten.
Die Höhle befindet sich auf einer Ranch von Sr. Dário. Er erklärte uns den Weg dorthin und wies auf den Lichtschalter hin. Das war der wichtigste Hinweis! Damit war ein Lightpainting sicher. 😊 Sr. Dário vermietet kleine Ferienhäuser auf seinem Gelände. Bei Instagram findet man ihn unter "pousadariozinho".

We first explored the terrain. Another beautiful waterfall directly above the cave entrance. Great location, I thought to myself. This area is really worth a trip!
In the video at the bottom I show more details of the location and the creation of the light painting.
Wir erkundeten zuerst das Terrain. Wieder ein schöner Wasserfall direkt über dem Höhleneingang. Super Location dachte ich mir. Diese Gegend ist wirklich eine Reise wert!

Gruta do Poço Certo
The following picture shows the previously visited chapel. The cave is not far from the chapel. However, the direct route there can only be travelled in a four-wheel drive vehicle. With our car, we first had to return to the country road and drive for half an hour to get to the cave.
Das folgende Bild zeigt die zuvor besuchte Kapelle. Die Höhle ist nicht weit von der Kapelle entfernt. Der direkte Weg dorthin ist jedoch nur mit einem Allradfahrzeug zu passieren. Mit unserem PKW mussten wir erst wieder zurück auf die Landstraße und eine halbe Stunde Fahrt in Kauf nehmen, um zur Höhle zu gelangen.
The Tools
As usual, I will show you the tools used here. As you can see, you don't need a lot of equipment to create images like this. A The Ball Of Light tool, consisting of a control unit, a cable and three balls. A torch was used to illuminate the location.
Wie gewohnt, zeige ich an dieser Stelle die eingesetzten Tools. Wie du siehst, bedarf es keiner großen Ausrüstung, um solche Bilder zu erstellen. Ein The Ball Of Light Tool, bestehend aus einem Steuergerät einem Kabel und drei Bällen. Eine Taschenlampe wurde zum Ausleuchten der Location gebraucht.

What Is Light Painting?
Light painting is a unique art form. As a rule, the darkness is illuminated by the artist with various light sources and traces of light are painted into the picture with various lighting tools. Various techniques are used, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. When using ND filters, this technique can also be used in daylight. All images were taken during a single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cropping and possibly adjusting the white balance, the images are not processed on the computer.
Lichtmalerei ist eine einzigartige Kunstform. In der Regel wird die Dunkelheit mit diversen Lichtquellen vom Künstler ausgeleuchtet und Lichtspuren mit diversen Lichtwerkzeugen ins Bild gemalt. Dabei kommen verschiedene Techniken zum Einsatz, wie Kamerarotation oder andere Bewegungen der Kamera während der Belichtung. Die kreativen Möglichkeiten sind nahezu unbegrenzt. Bei Einsatz von ND-Filtern kann diese Technik auch bei Tageslicht angewand werden. Alle Bilder wurden während einer einzigen Belichtung aufgenommen. Abgesehen vom Entrauschen, Schärfen, Beschneiden und eventuellem Anpassen des Weißabgleichs werden die Bilder nicht am Computer bearbeitet.
